I had the same problem. I changed the alternator and it went away. It was a bad diode in the alternator.

I had the exact same thing happen about 10 years ago. I suspected a ton of other things but a new ballast resistor fixed it.

I’ve been doing the exact same for almost 30 years too.

I bought one of Dan’s switches for my Barracuda. Waaaaay better than the crappy reproduction that refused to cancel and was stiff as a board to the point I was worried about snapping the lever in half.

How does the light bulb socket come out of the ‘68 marker lights? My bulb socket spins so I thought maybe it screws out, but it just spins. Does the socket just pull out of the marker light? Thanks

I believe Packard 58 terminals are more correct as a replacement for the Mopar ones on the firewall bulkhead.

I have the exact same MP Performance distributor and the factory mechanical advance setting was way too long at something like around 30 degrees. With the factory mechanical advance setting, factory advance springs and my initial set at 5 degrees BTDC, my engine pinged at the slightest throttle...

That’s the YH advance mechanism made by Mallory. See my above post for the correct advance spring kit and sticks for setting mechanical advance limit, and I’ve posted a link to the Mallory advance style description.

Place a search on EBay for a Mallory 29014 kit which includes springs and tabs. 2 weeks ago I got an email hit from Ebay for a Mallory 29014 kit that was identified as a Harley distributor kit. There was a best offer option which I placed and won it for an amazing price.
