    904 Trans rebuild help

69MOPE's idea might be easier and cheaper if you don't have the pipe and cap laying around.

    904 Trans rebuild help

I made my own slide hammer with a piece of all-thread and small piece of iron pipe with a cap on it. Drilled a hole in the cap for the all-thread to go through and screwed the cap onto the pipe. Then you just use a nut and washer on the cap side to create a stop for the pipe. Don't remember the...

    Narrowing 8 3/4 details

Thanks for the replies everyone! I wouldn't have considered narrowing the housing without a jig if it weren't for the musclecar episode. I think I might just buy the pucks on ebay, found a guy selling them for around $100, then you just buy the rod localy. I think it'd be cheaper than sending it...

    Narrowing 8 3/4 details

Thanks! I've seen someone on another forum use the angle iron trick, I think I might try that approach. They also used a pipe cutter to get near perfect cuts, which I really liked. I like to do as much as I can on my own, It's why I got into cars in the first place.

    Narrowing 8 3/4 details

So I decided to narrow an 8 3/4 for my Dart project, I got the housing off a C-body for $60 at the junkyard and a pair of stock A-body axles from another FABO member for $50. So far so good, but I have a few questions: 1) When shortening a driveshaft, does it need to be re-balanced? 2) Can I...

    Drill & tap aluminum pan?

I was thinking if I strip it at 1/8 it'll be ok since bungs require a larger hole. I would use a bung but I'd have to go get it welded. Thanks!

    Drill & tap aluminum pan?

I just got an aluminum trans pan but the only fitting is on the bottom for a plug. I want to run a trans temp gauge and was wondering if it'd be okay to just drill and tap the pan for a 1/8 sender, or is a welded bung a must? The pan is pretty thick...

    Floor shift linkage swivel

Apparently I lost the swivel assembly sometime between the junk yard and my car. I figure it'd be easy to fab one up. So could anyone please help me out with some good pics of one, and measurements? It'd be much appreciated! Thanks

    Auto Tranny Support

So are they unnecessary? I realized I didn't put them on after putting the engine back in. If it's safe to leave them out I will.

Kickdown lever & output shaft bearing

Rebuilding my 72 904 trans and was wondering... Should I replace the stock (3.8 ) kickdown lever with a 4.2 or 5.0? This is for a 350ish HP daily driver. How can you tell if the output shaft bearing is still usable? would it be obvious if it's not? The ATSG manual only has instructions on...

    904 rebuild parts & pitfalls

Ok, got the tf2 kit installed in the VB. Got the transtar kit, Sonnax servo, and springs & rollers. Should I upgrade the clutch packs to alto reds (kit has borgewarner)? Or should I go to the 5 clutch pack by using the thin .061 disc with .068 steels? I also contacted CRT and they recommended...

    904 rebuild parts & pitfalls

I need your help once again FABO! I just got done building a 360 for my 72 dart which should, hopefully, be putting out 350ish hp (machinist's guess). This will be a fun daily driver with no track time, but probably some stop light action. I am going to be rebuilding the sb 904 and need some...

    8 3/4 help needed

Kind of a noob here so please bare with. 72 dart custom (4dr). So my local junkyard is having a half off sale this weekend so I wanted to go look for a 8 3/4 diff, currently have 7 1/4. What donor should I look for? Does it matter? I'm hoping on a sbp since that's what I currently have (new...
