    Over reved alternator?

Sounds reasonable to me Dell with my zero understanding about anything inside these charging components. It wouldn't surprise me a bit about them all being made the same in one place. May I ask this question another way? Do you prefer the old or newer style regulator/alternator system? Say...

    Over reved alternator?

AJ, curious which style of voltage regulator thats been working for out good for you? Always wondered if one lasted longer than the other. Sounds like you've tested one of them plenty good.

where can i find wiring for dummies?

The best place to start is to get a factory service manual. They have the schematics which you can use to rewire your entire car if you need.

    Questions about electronic vs HEI

If the mixture gets lit it makes no difference in the burn. If it was done with a short gap set plug from a set of breaker points or a long spark of an hei. The problem is when it doesn't get lit. This is why points were replaced. Points would bounce and no

    Questions about electronic vs HEI

Mopar also makes ignition boxes made for higher cylinder pressure. It seems to be luck of the draw when it comes to electronic parts. I personally have only had two mopar electronic box's quit on me in nearly 40 years. A few ballast also. Some seem to have worse luck with them. I have...

6 volt to 12 volt conversion question

They switched over to 12v in 56. I parted out a 56 DeSoto and have some spare parts squirrel'd away like the blower motor and possibly wipers we could compare. May work?

    alternator pully swap

I know you are correct and it is logical to keep things cool. This is just a nostalgia thing. Really the entire car doesn't make sense like it may have seemed to 40 years ago.

    alternator pully swap

It ain't worth nothing till it gets up to temp. It will get there quick im sure with 13.5:1 compression. It's not really meant to be run long. Gets cooled between rounds kind of engine. It is built from all old parts used by plenty of racers before I found their obsolete leftovers. Block is...

    alternator pully swap

I also wouldn't put these pulleys on a street car. My goal here is to get the ratios to match the 65 or 68 race hemis. Still working on digging up this Pulley size information. I will probably have to have a water pump pulley made to match the belt groove of the moroso's and to get a...

    alternator pully swap

Just to follow up for anyone thinking about using these old moroso underdrive pulleys. First thing a person should know is that moroso makes two different alternator pulleys for the old Mopar alternators. Of course I obtained and installed the incorrect one first time around. Different...

    alternator pully swap

This alternator will not be for street driving so it should be OK. Fingers crossed. I also plan to use the constant output voltage regulator. I did manage to get the pulley off, it was on very very tight. Didn't have the correct puller but with a small struggle it did eventually give up...

    alternator pully swap

Good eye Dell, yes this is a old moroso pully. It is half of a set that also includes the crank pully. You would think they would have made a matching water pump pully also but not the case. I have found a ford pully to line up best so far. The grooves are made deeper on this set so the belt...

    alternator pully swap

Thanks for the replies, you confirmed my thoughts I would have to disassemble the alternator to press the new pulley on. Time to learn something new to me. As for determining the output of this alternator. If I take it to a tester that can spin it will they be able to tell me more than "it's...

Any tips or direction you got. Looks like pully is pressed on. No threads in shaft for a puller. Want to use the aluminum pulley shown in picture.

    A Dissected Ignition Coil

? Coils are a disposable part when they begin leaking or are burnt up. Same goes for ignition control box's, electronic voltage regulators and ballast resistors. Non rebuildable. Keep spares of these items to swap out when needed and don't bother yourself with the mess of taking them...

    70's era gauges

If that were mine, and only my opinion, there is only one answer.........the old black face SW guages. I agree, SW was the industry standard since the beginnings of the automobile. They had a no nonsense utilitarian reputation and could be found in everything from bulldozers to...

Can a wire gauge be too large?

X2 flexable fine strands with a quality jacket. Heat shrink rather than butt connectors. I cut off all the plastic sleeves on the terminals, soldered and used heat shrink tube. Problem free for over a decade now. Belden makes some quality wire. At least they did 20 years ago.
