Looking for the way of old school

The racers in the hemi Darts and B'cudas didn't have to do anything. Cars came with Corning light windows - tracks and no mechanism, seat belt material attached to the bottom of the window runs up the inside of the glass and out the top of the door doubled over and and snapped to the bottom...

    Cecil County 10-28-23

Although I'm on the West Coast now I grew up about an hour from there and made my first quarter mile passes there in 1973 at the "TRACTION CAPITAL OF THE EAST!!!!!". The Ramchargers used to go there just to set class records because of the superior traction.

Who Do We Have With Us Yet - 1960's-70's Super and Pro Stock

Over the past several years I've seen Shirley Shehan (Drag-on Lady), Akron Arlen Vanke, Don Groethier , Roger Lindamood and his son, Randy, and Jim Clarke - they were all getting up there but haven't heard of their passing. I see folks from the Ramchargers and Golden Commandos at Carlisle. Is...

    Ammeter or voltmeter?

They don't give you the same information - ammeter tells you something is wrong in the charging system, Voltmeter tells you the result after it's too late to fix it before you are stuck (glorified idiot light - yes I have opinions). I always have both because an undramatic over or undercharge...

    Cable shifter issue, please help!

I always use a heat resistant sheath over the cable in the area of the exhaust, you can get them from Summit or Jegs. Half of my cable is on top of the trans in a big loop and it solved a bunch of issues. and like someone said, get a spare cable. Once you have one you'll never need it:thumbsup:

Are all tracks going 1/8 mile.

rights to race at Bremerton Raceway in WA State were sold to somebody new and they converted it all 1/8 mile. It wouldn't bother me so much if they just wanted to run their points program that way and had 1/4 mile racing on Friday nights or something, but it's 1/8 or nothing. Now for the long...

    Transmission Cooler/Cooler lines

To quote Rick at A&A transmissions: "there's no such thing as a trans cooler that is too big.." It increases overall capacity of the system to boot. People at car shows ask me where the rest of my AC system is

    5 liter MOPAR

I did some research - apparently the 301 poly was built in 1957 strictly in Plymouths. It had a 3.91 bore like a 318 and a 3.12 stroke as opposed to 3.31 for a 318. This is NOT the same as the 301 made in 1955 for Chrysler cars, which was a poly motor, but one generation earlier.

    5 liter MOPAR

So sometime in the late 50s, early 60s Chrysler wanted a car that could be run in a 5 liter class, so they built a 301 poly engine and offered it to the general public in the body they wanted to use. This was a short stroke 318 poly. The only change that you have to make to use it in an LA...

Victor, Super Victor...or just stick with my LD 340 maniflold

that's what the Victor was designed for, and you can probably recoup the cost on a used one by selling the LD340 on here... You might also consider the Mopar M1 single plane that is designed for race only use (doesn't even have a place to run heater hoses).

Cecil Co. Drag-o-way (back in the day)

Growing up north of Baltimore (Ballimer, Merlin - home of the Oreos!), Cecil was the place to go! I made my first passes there and even won a trophy class trophy there in 1974 (unbeknownst to my dad who still owned the car). Known as "the Traction Capital of the East" it was also a favorite...

My 70 dart thinks she's fat.

Replace the front fender inner shields (sheet metal shield that keeps road crap out of your door jambs) with shields from a 73 or later Dart (2dr, 4dr, sport - it doesn't matter). They changed them to plastic when trying to save weight for gas mileage. Make a door window set up like the 68 hemi...

What gauges do you actually look at?

I've heard plenty of vitriol about ammeters but the fact is by the time the voltmeter tells you about high or low voltage it's probably too late - an ammeter tells you whats gone bad right away...

Race car & trailer got taken out at stop light

I agree with adriver above... you pay your insurance company to take care of you, make the claim through them and let their lawyers fight with the other drivers lawyers. That way you get your damages up front. There's nobody more effective than an insurance company for dragging all the funds...

    Destroked Mopar ( LA )

Look for a crank for a 301 wide block. This engine was produced in the late 50s and is a short stroke 318 wide block. the crank drops right in a 318 or 340 and only needs an 8 bolt hemi flex plate to bolt in. All of the cranks are forged right from the factory.
