I mentioned in an earlier post to swap out the vac adv canister . I had the same troubles 273 commando .. new can solved the issue. ..

try running a GOOD vac advance canister . My 273 commando had the same problem of it breaking up badly when rpms came up.. I switched the vac can and it ran beautiful.

I haven't installed the dist yet . I'll see where the numbers are when I get it running . I can always make changes to what it likes. too cold to be wrenching here today .

Gerald .. The tach wire to (-) coli passed thru the "G" Terminal on firewall bulk head. In the schematics , that's the one that did not have a wire coming out of it. Maybe if mopar made a supplement service repair manual for 65 , it might have showed the tach schematics .

Yeah Gerald .. one of those coils got so hot it melted the wax coatings , and one other resistor looks bad also. so it is pretty much TOAST ! Persons before me tried to get it to operate and hooked a hot wire where they should not have been hooked. Melt down .

I had another old sun tach from 1964 laying around , we tried to use its circuit board and run my dash tach with the old sun tachs circuit board together . the result >>> it just pinned the dash tach needle ... going to call theses tach places to ask if they know the size of that resistor...

Does anyone have a clear photo of the inside of the sender circuit board ? found out that I have one burned out resistor that I can't find the colors on it because it has turned black . it's on the 12 volt line for that resistor. the white arrow shows where the resistor was . I removed it.

thanks for the replies guys ! Well I have wire diagrams now . but the hundred Dollar question is , if this tach and sender wires are enclosed in a harness ( which they are) which position of the firewall block plug end is the one where the neg lead to the distributor is . I guess...

Would anyone out there have a Service manual for the 65 barracuda that could trace that wire down and see it's routing thru the harness. I haven't see anything in particular for the formula S car tach wire illustrations yet . Thanks guys !

I have a 65 formula S with factory tachometer . when I start the car the tach needle pins all the way to right. when I shut the engine off the needle will fall back to "0" again . I do not see any wire that is suppose to attach to neg side of coil . was told it is suppose to be a grey wire ...

I have the pertronix ignitor III and the flame throw coil.... issue I have with mine is I can't feel when it hits the rev limiter... is it suppose to feel like a pop pop pop like a msd unit or just stop revving the engine when reached the limit set at. Thanks ! john

update after playing around with the curve in the 273 HP and setting the timing , I tried setting the total timing at 36* and appears this stock 273 hp does not like that much timing .luggish ! backed it back down to 34 total with a curved distributor at 18* inital and runs really...

Update worked on the dist curve today and installed one real light aftermarket spring for the weights and the other is a oem light spring . started it up and set it for 34 total and it does not advance anymore now .. Which is good! before it kept wanting to creap up past 34 total...

still working on getting the correct springs for the weights on the dist. I have several sb point and electronic distributors . parts donars I'm looking at the springs inside and the lighter of the springs is usually about 10-13 coils . which would be the lighter spring on tension ...

update ! Correction! I went to check on my specs on that distributor I rebuilt and I have two medium tension springs in it . I thought It had a tight looped spring in it but not so..

just finished curving my mopar dist. installed a pertronix III unit and flamethrow coil. changed out the slotted plate for a 8* .375 with a long looped stock spring and a medium spring. when I'm setting up the total timing @ 34* and 20* intinal and total at 2500 rpm ,vac adv plugged...

OK ......... update ... installed another vacumn canister 9.5 and it works fine .. no more cutting out.

My pertronix ignitor III and flame thrower II coil came today and installed it .. works Great!! .. this unit has a rev limiter built right into it.. worked like a charm! I rebuilt the mopar single point dist with a 8* slotted plate and two oem light springs.. Boy.......... does this engine...

something fried out in the inside ... It filled the clear glass up with smoke when I was testing it .. the insides smell like smoke bad .. something burned up ,, when I had the cover off and looked inside I did see one wire attached to the circuit board that was black and sooty.. that must...
