I had the same carb on a 273 commando and it acted in the same way. tried everything to fix the issue but had no luck. gave up on it . had it apart several times.

update ! Well I finally gave up on this 4131s carb.. I purchased another afb 4294s from a 67 commando . installed it and the cuda FLIES ! no issues !

my digital camera came up with a "memory card error " . I don't know how to turn it off/ unlock it . otherwise I would shoot you guys some pics of the insides.

Mike............on the insides of the 4131s afb , there is no sign of any kind of mounting for the weights in it . All looks stock in the insides. just can't see any where the weights would sit in there. they have to have some kind of slot to rest/rotate on . there is nothing like that in...

disconnected the tach wire and bumped up the rev limiter to 9k so it wouldn't hit it a 5500 rpms . still surging . no improvement .

Jetted the secondaries up to a 98 jet . seemed to be a bit better only if you ease into the throttle to 5k rpms. If you punch it wot at a roll it just won't clear itself out and surge .

I took it for a ride with the vac line off and plugged . still surging wot .

Previous holley dp 4777 has 67 pri and 76 sec jets. anyone know what these jets would be equivlent to my carter afb 4131s with 89 pri and 82 sec?

It's a carter afb 4131s no signs of any weights in the secondaries.

took it out for a ride and it is still breaking up when secondaries start to open . It breaks up even more with the air cleaner on . so......... it breaks up with a 74 rear sec jet now even with the previous sec jet 92 . it's been at each extreme high and low ....... lean and rich...

We I did some more digging into this 4131s carter afb and found out that the 120 - 352 tall jet has the same orifice as the .089 tall jet . carter used different numbers over the years with same orifice size. appears that someone had this carb running really fat . so I am leaning it out...

just spent some more time researching this issue appears someone has been in this carb before me switching things . it is suppose to have a #89 tall jet not a #52 jet . also the metering rods been switched too . I'll put the correct rod and jet in and see if that helps.

ok here we go . I pinched off the fuel line to the carb and the carb did not spit fuel out the vent tubes. So I went thru the carb and found one float 1/2 full of fuel . replaced it with spare carb parts , then rechecked the float levels all good, looked great . went to install , fired it...

I'll try that first before I rebuild . I'll let you know.

I did notice that one float had a little dent in it. that could be the calprit . The thing is , it all worked great a day ago . I think it's time to go thru the carb again , check all the float measurements and check for floats filling up with gas and go from there.

have a 273 commando engine with a afb 38523 that is shooting fuel out all the vent tubes . this just started today carb have ran real nice other wise. I took the top of carb off and cleaned and blew out the needle and seats , check the floats and levels , all looked fine . I didn't do...

OK fabo members , fixed all the issues mentioned above ... installed the carb and it still would not idle. the problem was the 89 jets and the 16-403 3 step rods , they were too fat and were blocking any fuel going thru at idle. solution was the install smaller step rods .guessing the fat...

Well I went thru the carb and found several things wrong, here they are: #1 ---------- 2 screws missing in the throttle plates, pri. and sec plates , and you could see thru the holes where the screws should have been . lean condition , sucking more air than need be . #2---- the jet sizes...

Thanks marco ! well the primary jet and step rod are correct then .. mine are just reversed . my jet # .347... .047 jet orifice is pretty small wouldn't you think ?

I did some research and found that the larger jet should be in the primary side . these jets are reversed. I'll double check when I open it up again. This maybe the problem why is has no idle circuit. NO FUEL . stayed tuned.
