Finally Put Electric Power Steering In My Dart

So here's a link to the test drive video. I started out with the sensitivity adjustment about halfway and in the end I left it at about a quarter of the way up. You can literally park this thing palming the wheel if you're at half adjustment. I am considering installing a sensor on one of my...

Finally Put Electric Power Steering In My Dart

So to install this I first bought another steering collum so I wouldn't destroy my original. We had to remove the collum and after disassembly we wound up cutting the lower half of the collapsible section off of the column (giving us more header clearance. We then fabricated a flange and welded...

Finally Put Electric Power Steering In My Dart

Yeah I thought about notching the door and I'm also considering a fast ratio box as well

Finally Put Electric Power Steering In My Dart

Yes, The motor interferes with opening the door. I can get it opened about an inch but I figured it was a small price to pay for power steering.

Finally Put Electric Power Steering In My Dart

Oh and by the way, this defaults to manual effort steering in the event of a system failure,so it's safe.

Finally Put Electric Power Steering In My Dart

I feel the same. It is pretty proven and the fact that I pretty much trashed all of the original parts 40 years ago (power steering didn't pertain to going fast and it was in the road of my cheap Eagle chrome headers), off it went. Fast-forward to today and I'd REALLY like my power steering back...

Finally Put Electric Power Steering In My Dart

Also if you add the wheel sensor you can have 2 different levels of assist. One for when you're driving and one for parking lots

Finally Put Electric Power Steering In My Dart

I'm considering the Borgeson box as well. The factory box isn't all that bad when you keep the assist at about 1/4 of scale.

Okay, So I tried the power steering and it's AWESOME! I had the sensitivity control set to 1/4 and it was plenty. No trouble maneuvering when sitting still or moving slowly. Here's a few more pics

Finally Put Electric Power Steering In My Dart

I will take a few more pictures when I get back home from this business trip. I used the Flaming River kit. (about $1,500.00). I know a lot of people say you can do this on the cheap by using the motor assembly out of a Toyota Prius but I didn't want to take any chances. The kit comes with the...

Finally Put Electric Power Steering In My Dart

We'll after waiting for the cruise season to end I finally (with the help of my good friends) I got my Flaming River electric power steering installed. The first thing in the mechanical instructions is "Installation is easy". It's easy if you're a fabricator/welder, luckily my buddy Larry is...

    QA1 Shocks For The Dart

Well guys, I took the Dart out for a short blast WOW, WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Even with the old shocks it only spun for about 15 ft and hooked after that. When it was spinning it pulled almost perfectly straight! I am thoroughly pleased with the Cal-tracs and I can't wait until I get my shocks, PST...

    QA1 Shocks For The Dart

Okay so I couldn't wait. Looks like I got an additional 1" lift over the suoerstocks with is what I wanted because I like a forward rake and it helps with tire clearance. I expect it to settle a bit, we'll see. The shocks are still a couple of weeks out. Oh yeah......PICTURES! Before new...

    QA1 Shocks For The Dart

Does anyone know the fully compressed and fully extended.lengths of the Viking Warrior shocks? QA1 lists them but PST doesn't give any for the Vikings. Calvert wants 8" I believe. Thanks for your help.

What's the length of the rear Viking shocks compressed and at full extension? I think Calvert is looking for 8" of travel.

    QA1 Shocks For The Dart

They look good James and I'm interested but the web site says 2 to 3 week lead time. I'm just a little gun shy, every time I order something that's not in stock they keep moving the date back (not saying PST has done it). Is the website accurate?
