What's a good intro welder for subframe connectors?

My two cents on this having done welder repair for 30 years. Any Lincoln, Miller or Hobart are good welders. That being said the older ones can be repaired much cheaper than the newer ones and tend to last longer. harbor freight can be an ok welder but when something goes wrong with it you can...

    Rear leaf spring shackle bushings

I just put mine in yesterday. It was tough but I did get them in. Run a wire brush through them to get out the old rubber and lube them up. If you taper the edge a bit you can get them started easier. I then used the vice to press them in.

Looks good. I installed some just like this on my convertible awhile back. It definitely took the twist out of the car.

    Front Suspension ROT

There is a cap but that wouldn't solve your issue. You can find a used rail on here I would bet fairly easily. 67- 72 I believe A body is the same so that gives you options.

Front frame rail/a arm advice needed.

When I first got my 68 the upper a arm mounts were rusted off. I picked up a section of rail from a yard much the same as what you have and took it to a local shop that built rods. He sectioned in the piece of rail about 3" on each side of the a arm mounts. I had the car on the road for several...

    Is this frame toast?

It is a common issue. Sectioned in a piece on the drivers side of mine when I first got the car back in 83. Last go around I replaced both front rails for a cleaner repair.

Can't say if Magnum Force improved thier quality or not but the reported issues they had in the past made my decision to go with the RMS easier.

    Slight frame crack. Opinions?

Wen welding a crack you should drill a hole at the end point of it and fill whenwelding. This will relieve the stress and prevent it from spreadnig. Yes even though you welded the crack it can spread from the end of the weld.

Wheel stud problem. Im a dumbass!!

You are not the only one. I did this years ago when I changed out the studs on my cuda. As long as there is still some slight grip to the splines, Permatex red thread lock should work OK. That is what I used on mine and they held well. Just don't let a monkey with an air impact near them.

Tubular upper arms-I feel lucky tonight

Glad everything turned out ok for you. You can see very plainly that whomever welded that did not get any penetration. You can get that MIG and TIG if you do not know what you are doing. If I had a set of these they would be getting the welds ground down and a good bead put on them. With the...

Need help steering box? Car out of commission

Procedure for adjusting the box. It will give you an idea if it is the problem. The general adjustment procedure for any recirculating-ball steering gear is: 1. Center the steering. 2. Loosen the sector shaft adjuster 1-2 turns and snug the locknut. 3. Loosen the input shaft adjuster...

    Should I build them

Dave, I don't think that price is out of line looking at the quality. Take in to fact that when I got my vert back in 84 it needed this or it was going in the scrap pile. It cost me $75 at the time for a frame section and $100 to have someone cut it out and piece it in. Then, even though the...

Frame connectors US Cartool need help.

Yes you definitely want to pull the carpet and seats. I had a kid that worked for me try to weld in some floor patches on his truck. He did pull back the carpet but left the seat. The next thing you know he had lost the truck and the house he garage was attached to after it had caught fire.

Frame connectors US Cartool need help.

I agree with the above post, definitely since your car is a convertible and prone to body flex. It is best to have it sitting on the wheels. If they do put it up on stands it sould be supported at the rear axel and front lca's to simulate a wheel load. They would also need to be sure the stands...
