Personally I run wires with 90 degree boots on 5 and 7 and loop them up around the outside of the header tubes using wire looms to keep the wires off of the headers. Works great.

I have no experience with this particular distributor but I remember back in my wrench turning days factory HEI distributors had an internal coil and you wouldn't use an external coil. Just 12V+ and a neg ground.

I know this is going to sound crazy but my brother and I chased a similar gremlin in his 69 Barracuda for over a year including replacing the under dash wiring harness with no success. In the end it was a bad turn signal switch in the column.

You should have 4 wires 1 green 1 red 1 black and 1 white. The black goes to ground, the red goes to ign. on hot, the green goes to neg coil terminal and the white goes to lights best place to attach is at dimmer switch. Hope that helps.
