    Manifold Heater for Cold Climates

I run a Clifford shorty 4v intake and headers on a slant 6. When I got the car I soon discovered living on the coast and temperatures dropped below 55* on a humid day drive-ability was bad, would not idle, and drank fuel like the tank had a hole in it caused by carburetor icing. I used some...

    Lingering fuel smell in oil

After seeingshort trips, never fully up to operating temperature, I suspect this is theproblem. Some rawfuel always finds its way to the oil pan at cold start up, and accelerator pumpshoots before manifold is fully heated contribute to the problem as well as allthe fuel won’t stay in...

    Lingering fuel smell in oil

Check for carburetordribbling raw fuel into intake manifold after shut down. Summer heat sometimes causes excessivepressure build up in fuel bowl and or boiling of fuel in fuel bowl forcing rawfuel be purged eventually ending up in crankcase.

Is this a Limited Numbers Car?

Per American Standard Catalog of American Cars 1946-1975: Page 296. Dart GT series, Note 1: Some 35,000 (nearest 100 units) Dodge Dart GT and GTS models were built during calendar year 1968. Of those, 10,900 were sixes and 24,100 were V-8s. All GTS models were V8 powered.

How easy is the Offy Slant Six manifold 4bbl setup?

You need to measure combustion chamber dimensions, employ a compression calculator to design your performance up grade. As stated above; “Have some work done”, includes gasket matching, mild porting, oversized valves, larger diameter exhaust, and most likely a camshaft up grade. A...

Bent pushrod, what is the cause?!

Old gas will often cause a valve to stick. Once valve won’t move something has to give, often it’s a push rod. Stumper: It’s a 71, and photos appear to show solid lifter rockers; no collapsing. Over revving can bend push rods.

What does this compression test mean?

Where this car has not been run for several years chances are good that there the rings need to be run in, and most likely the valve lash hasn’t been adjusted for the last 50K miles or more. Where that car is a 1965, and probably has not been fitted with hardened exhaust seats once...

    Hot 170

This fan modification is not necessary if radiator and rest of cooling system is clean and holding pressure. These slant cars ran for years without over heating with a four blade fan. Shroud was used on air conditioned cars.

    Bad water pump body

    Hot 170

Suspect a plugged up radiator or perhaps it's cap is not holding pressure, check cap, and have it boiled out if cap is good. Also flush out block and head, remove block drain lower passenger's side of block below #5 park plug; you may have to bust through some slag with a screw driver or such...

what is the deal with my 225 /six compression?

Bill: At 0.006 lift lifter crank has moved 20 degrees, at 0.010” 30 degrees, and 0.030” 50 degrees. By shortening ramp or increasing rate of lift I have shortened the overlap event that has been causing low vacuum and torque at low rpm. I have moved the torque curve down the...

what is the deal with my 225 /six compression?

Personally I prefer to adjust lash when engine is running, however with big overlapping cam, and higher than factory idle, engine is moving too much, oil squirts all over inner fender, firewall, floor, and windshield; one PIA. Until I added more mufflers I could not hear valve to rocker...

blowby, how much is too much?

? By any chance do you have a 2.6 Mitsubishi Jet engine with complicated reed exhaust recirculation? If so it has a pressurized crankcase, and pulsating air mixed with droplets of oil blowing out of oil fill opening in valve cover when running is normal. I have owned one from new in my 82...

what is the deal with my 225 /six compression?

This particular cam has very long ramps, at 0.006” the valve is open for 315 degrees, and closed for only about 20 degrees per degree wheel at zero lift. I had been advised multiple times by some of the slant racers over on /6dotorg to loosen lash, and never went past 0.018&#8221...

what is the deal with my 225 /six compression?

Compression test can be a tool to fine tune valve lash. Set lash to: Intake @ 0.010”and Exhaust @ 0.012” using previously described method hot and running. Drive the car for several hundred miles varying rpm as if you were braking in a new engine. Hopefully this will free up any...

    carb (thick gasket)

Why couldn’t the PCV plumbing be “T’ed” into manifold under each carburetor which would make a balanced vacuum connection between both banks? See below 3/8” tap under carb on my Clifford 4V intake, probably a vacuum source for power brakes:

    Holley 390 4bbl on my slant 6?

64Dart360: Thanks. My engine is far from stock, oversized valves, shaved peanut head for 9.5:1, ported, uppity cam, duel 2” exhaust to back bumper, 2600 stall converter, and 8 ¾” Suregrip with 3.55 gears out back. It runs 10.3 second 1/8 mile @ 68.3 mph in second gear. Engine doesn’t start...

    Holley 390 4bbl on my slant 6?

I use a Bouchillon throttle and kick-down cable bracket, and a Holley Chrysler throttle arm adapter. Even with larger exhaust on stock engine a 390 may be on the big side, and your engine may not be able to fully utilize the secondary side of this carburetor. Best scenario would be to install...

    Slant 6 Racing video

That looks like fun. Not many in line sixes run here in central Maine let alone slant cars. The local track I go to every year or so for a few time trial runs during a car show is a 1/8 mile job. For you scoff laws out there braking the speed limit by three MPH I’m in the club, got the...

ticking not fixed by valve adjustment

You may have a sticking valve, or lifter, or bent valve stem, or something else… hard to know without being there to look, listen, and perform a few tests such as compression, vacuum readings. As to the explosion at #5, probably carburetor leaked raw gas into intake runner pudding at...

Headers arent fitting. Power steering pump in the way. Which way do I go?

Would new engine mounts, plus a shim under driver’s side mount lift engine high enough to clear power steering? I had to do this on my ’67 to prevent contact of tube and gear’s adjusting bolt.
