    What's the widest tire...

Well, take a look....they fit. Yes, they are a bit wide for a 5.5. I really wanted 235s but I got a hell of a deal on the 245s and they have been on there for 8 years with no problem. And they don't rub. As for the Michelin girl, I have seen much worse...with much less on. Being an EMT...

    Factory backspace for 14x5.5 rally?

More probably a case of typical body build variations And 1/4 inch variance on a rear axle is rare, usally more than 3/4 inch. Mopar was not known for great build quality back then. I actually had to swap right rear doors on 2 Valiants back in the day. Doors would shut right but the body...

    1973 wheel lug spacing???

Esay on a 73. If you have drum brakes, you have 4 inch (small) bolt wheels with 7/16ths studs. If you have front disc brakes, you have a 4.5 inch bolt pattern with 1/2 inch studs. If you are still in doubt, see here... http://rockcrawler-mrt.com/boltpatternref.html

    spare

Remember, the original Valiant/Dart tire/wheel was a 6.50x13 on a 4.5" rim. They sat flush with trunk floor. Bigger tires and rims sorta muck up the fit and they did stick up above the trunk floor. If you look here, you will see the outline of the tire poking above the trunk floor on a...

    14" Tire info/advice

I think the 'tire expert' is not an expert. Ask him what size 14" tire will fit on a 14x6" rim !!
  22. yellowdartdave

    What 14" tires to run

I would go with at least the 205s or 225s. And 'touring' tires are rim protectors. 215/60/14 is about the optimal size for your rims. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSearchResults.jsp?width=215%2F&ratio=60&diameter=14&x=9&y=9

    What size do I need?

My late buddy ran 7.5 inches on his 15x10 wheels with a stock 8 3/4, mini-tubbed and relocated springs.
  29. yellowdartdave

    new tire size question

There are 2 ways to get a 15x10 rim under a Dart. 1. Hack a huge hole in the 1/4 panels. OR 2. Minitub the rear end and get Stockton Wheels to make up a set of 15x10s with 7 and 1/4 inch of backspacing.
