I couldn't pass on this even if it's wrong - picked it up for cheap (45 bucks). I'm new to the 4 speed scene and was told this is for an internally balanced 340 (I have a 70) ... I see it appears neutral balanced - was I told correctly ? When resurfaced, if it checks out neutral , it's a bolt on...

Was replacing the gasket - found this mangled ball bearing (?). Only drove the car once a short distance before resto started, didn't notice an issue, shifter a little sloppy, that's about it. Appears trans was rebuilt not long ago as fresh RTV all around ..........

Got this 489 w/3:91's pretty cheap - definitely will be rebuilt but was wondering what gives with the teeth marks on the posi unit, how's this happen ? Ring gear looks fine to me, but I'm no expert on these .......

I've got a pulsing vibration most noticeable around 3500 rpm cruising. Doesn't really sound/feel like the rear end (all is new/rebuilt with 600 miles) I'm guessing maybe driveshaft which I had cut and balanced ain't right ? Definitely not the "howling" rearend noise - it's a droning (pulsing)...

I'm trying to collect linkage - is the Z bar and clutch rod the same on a 1970 6 cyl 3 speed vs 70 8 cyl 4 speedl ? I found the parts but want to check fitment.

I bought what I was told to be a 4 speed shifter out of a 70 Duster. It's in great cosmetic shape but not 100% certain I got A body shifter rods (starting to look like E body to me after researching. Can anyone help with a pic or link to a correct pic ? No numbers other than 967 on the reverse...

Any reason my car is near impossible to roll backwards in neutral / I removed the driveshaft tonight - rear end spins free, turning the driveshaft by hand I determined its the trans, forward is fairly easy, backwards, lots more resistance. Has something been damaged ? All is rebuilt (supposedly).

My cooler's not marked in/out so I'm assuming it doesn't matter ? Got the cooler from a friend and am bypassing radiator.

So I had a stock set I bought a year or so ago, but with TTI's and B&M shifter hardware this ain't working very well - bad day in the garage and the family knows it ! Anyway - after yanking the first one in and out 3-4 times, bending and re-bending it may work but is awful close to header tube...

Looks like I'm going to have a problem with shifter cable routing and TTI's - the cable lays agains them when "relaxed" and I can tie it off maybe a half inch. Noticed the TTI's are about a 1/4" away from starter as well. Any thoughts on heat shielding for either issue ? 340/727.

Found a decent price on an E body 8 3/4 ... what's it take to adapt to an A ?

Car was a '73 318/904 car, swapped in 340/727 combo - the trans crossmember holes on the frame are different on the 727 crossmember, kinda surprises me that they'd drill them different if both transmissions were available in the A bodies (?). I'm assuming I can re-drill the necessary holes but...

Where would I find it ?

Picked up a new 727 that was bought from the dealership and has sat for three years - I'm putting it behind a strong 340 w/3000 stall convertor. What modifications/improvements would be recommended besides shift kit ? Will see the track 2-3 times a year max.

I'm going to assemble tonight but in cleaning I noticed the inside of the 8 3/4housing appears painted/coated (removed some with laquer thinner)- is this something the previous owner did or do they get a coat of paint to help prevent rust? Can't imagine it ever rusting if oil's coating everything ?
