What would be the intake bolt torque spec for a 65 273. The bolts are 5/16 NOT 3/8. is 35 lbs a bit too much?

In my search for some 318 swirl port heads I have come across two castings. A 302 casting as well as a 714 casting. What's the difference? I am hearing mixed messages. So I ask the people that know . These will be going on a 71 LA motor.:profilel:

71 340 J heads (2.02 intake) on a 71 318, yes or no. Would i be better off to put stock 360 intake valves ,1.88 into the 318 heads? I can get a good deal on the 340 heads which will bolt on with no work but I am told the 2.02s are over kill for the 318. O ya forgot, cam change is a given.

I am pulling the intake and heads off my 273. Should I be taking out the drain plugs in the block or should pulling the lower rad hose be good enough. I've never drained a block thru the plugs but Im told it;s a lot less mess. My car is already up on jack stands , ready to get-at-er.

Anyone use the cork end gaskets on a SB intake swap or just use silicone. I have not done one in a long time but I think I always used the gaskets in the set.....now I am hearing it's trouble (vacuum/oil leaks).
