It is hard enough for me to remember what I did last year but trying to remember what my son did when we took the car apart...no way.
Problem....we are installing the steering shaft ...
We did not lose the pin that holds the shaft to the power steering unit and the coupler was not taken off...
Well we dropped the car down on all 4s tonight (to give us a break from fabbing the seats to fit) and was surprised that we had no front suspension movement to speak of.
I cannot believe how easy it is to work on the engine at this height :)
Anyway, I had it at it's lowest level looking to see...
Of how the brackets fit on a power steering pump that will be installed on a 360.
Brackets taken off a long time ago and pics lost.
I just happen to have a spare and the brackets are different.
I have tried google image and I own the service manual.
Thanks
ian.
I have cleaned up my power steering pump and will paint it soon...but what do you clean up the inside with ?
Do you flush it with something or just add new fluid ?
Thanks
ian.
Getting closer...
1975 Duster
Top bolt that holds the shock on the car. It is a stud that has a nut on both sides.
The nut on the side tat holds the shock on to the car came off easily. The other side does not seem to want to budge. Not particularly keen on sticking one side of the stud in the vise so I...
I sometimes wonder if the folks writing instructions on how to install a part have ever seen one in person. Did a search here and again, read the service manual which is clear as mud...either that or I am getting a little less smart in my older age :)
I bought these from Energy suspension...
I am missing my idler arm bolt and a washer (?)
The bolt that I was going to use fit the hole perfectly but too small for the barrel of the arm. I have tried installing a washer but the arm just flops around when installed.
The service manual doesn't show a washer.
What am I doing wrong ...
It is kinda interesting to try to put something back together that you took apart two years ago in a different configuration with only the service manual to go by. Finding things is a bugger because we have shifted the stuff to different locations.
Anyway, I am putting the front suspension...
Folks,
Down to the steering shaft bearings upper snap ring. The two holes in the snap ring are really tiny and removal tool will not work. Any suggestions on how to get by this little bugger ?
I have a mass of wires attached to the turn signal assembly. Do I need to cut all of them to get...
Folks,
I need to take the steering wheel of my '75 Duster.
My puller tongs are too large to fit between the steering wheel and the collar. Not sure if I should put some penetrating oil on the shaft.
The manual says not to pry or band the wheel off.
Any suggestions.
Thanks
ian.
I have been told by quite a few folks who have worked on A bodies that after I put the upper ball joint in the upper control arm, that I should put a spot weld in it to keep it in place.
That sounds a bit radical to me...maybe blue or red loctite instead ?
I also notice (and I asked this...
I have learned my lesson when I asked the manufacturer of a suspension kit if it included everything I needed. I bought it and it didn't. My stupidity for not doing more homework and trusting a company.
I am looking for part numbers for a:
1975 Plymouth Duster lower control arm shaft...
Gee, I am asking a lot of questions.
The rear springs off the '75 Duster are quite good but the rubber around the rings to bind them are gone. I took them to a local heavy equipment shop today to be re bound and they suggested ..and they weren't sure..that a company about an hour and a half...
Folks,
Trying to crawl forward.
The complete suspension from out '75 Duster was removed last year.
Took the unit apart (including the steering linkage) today and started to clean all the suspension bits.
Bought a HyperFlex Master Kit Plymouth 'A' Body 66-76 kit a couple of weeks ago -...
I had intended for a garage to replace all the bushing in my front end...but I am now doing this job.
Are there any really basic instructions on how to remove these things..
The front end is off and the k frame has been removed.
Thanks
Ian.
I am now a bit nervous about moving the rear springs on a '75 duster with a kit after reading many of the posts here. My skill level with a welder/fabricator ( I have the kit) is 0 and I am very new to this stuff.
I have seen offset shakle kits that seem do the same. I cannot see how the...
Folks, we are dead in the water and I don't want to do the brut force thing..
The little chrome tube will not move as it is....we have used various intruments to try to punch the chrome tube through but it doesn't want to move...not sure if we are going in the right direction so here are some...
Hi,
The torsion bars are out.
Front shocks unbolted (top).
Removed the nuts on the top UCA..we have left the bolts in place for now.
We have taken off the one splash shield..are there suposed to be two ?
We have sprayed penitrating oil on the 4 K-frame bolts.
How do you take off the steering...
Folks,
Last time I did any body work was '83 but the kids car got me thinking about trying welding again since it seems that I have access to a unit.
Does anyone have plans/dimentionson how to build the required bits for moving the springs inward and sub frame connectors for a '75 duster ...
The rear spring setup is rather crude..I am sure you could convert the shocks that would hold up nicely but keeping the axel in place would be tricky..I have seen the expensive way to go..has anyone discovered a backyard garage way of fiving this issue ?
Just a question I have been pondering.
ian.
Hi,
Since I am going to have the car upside down, I will be putting in the rail connectors to stiffen up the body..but that is only front to back..is there such a piece that runs across the car to stiffen it up ?
The car will never be driven in the sno..not sureif it ever has..to I make...
Since the selection of wide tires is small for a 14 inch rim, I have been looking for a set of 15s for the rear.
I just came across a set of these which have me thinking because they look like rally rims...
Folk,
I am told (by hotchkis) that this tabs will weld your 1973+ LCA with only a bit of fabrication so you do not have to buy a new LCS w/tabs if you want to install a front sway bar.

Thanks
