My fuel gauge has never worked in my Duster and I discovered tonight that the cause was the brass float has a tiny tiny hole somewhere. Is there anyway to fix the float or should I just buy a new sending unit and swap the float over to mine?

I put a new fuel pump and lines on my duster tonight and it won't suck gas out of a jug! I took the pump out again with all the rubber lines still attached and pumped it manually (had to push pretty hard) and it sucked gas out of the jug and shot it out the end!! Any idea why it wouldn't pump...
