So I just finished installing a new cam and heads in my 383. I am having a he'll of a time getting the initial timing setup. It turn over and sounds like it wants to start, but nothing. I tried retarding and advance all that seems to do is backfire through the carb. I'm at a loss.

Does anyone know the deck clearance of a 383b block? Casting number is 2468130 7. Reason I'm asking is I'm thinking of a head swap down the line and trying to figure specs. Current it still has flat top pistons. Also current heads are 346s.

I picked up a 72 duster that has a 1968 383. the guy i bought it from told me it has a "mild" purple cam but does not know the grind.(it was installed as a gift). I am looking at options for upgrading the heads but dont know how this unkown cam will affect my options. First question is how can...
