    variable duration lifters (rhoads)

I have a question about these.....won't the fast bleed down at idle possibly cause adverse compression effects? example: I am building an iron-headed small-block to about 9.8:1. the cam will have 228 @ .050 and .512 lift. won't the Rhoads lifters help cause low-rpm detonation?

    blueprinting question for builders....

I was measuring my rods last night and have a few questions. how close do they need to be, for one.....mine are all within .8 gram and then...i made up a jig for measuring the big end, and they are all within .8 grams. I can then assume, that since i measured all the big ends exactly the...

    bearings, journals, pistons, and cylinders

Sorry for not being Mopar related, but I have to take a Cuda break and fix my 68 Mustang. And it IS engine related. The motor I'm building is a 125,000 mile 302 from an early 80s lincoln. I was wondering if I could get some help determining what to do with these parts. to me, it looks like...

    timing at 30 BTDC?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

yup....weird...is that even possible??? mech advance only, 800 rpm....i checked the balancer mark when i had the heads off and #1 at TDC, and it was dead on 0.....and yet the timing indicates 30 BTDC at idle..... it starts easily and quickly, and runs great......

    head bolt torque

ok....question....i understand torqueing in 3 stages to get even and uniform clamping...however.... when you do that according to the torque order. when you get the last one torqued, the first one has a bit to go to get back to that torque value again.... so do you torque in the proper order...

    nylon pulley spacer

i want to make a pulley spacer for my crankshaft to line my pulleys up. i currently have a 1/4 aluminum spacer i made for the water pump pulley, which lines it up with the outer (larger) groove on the crank.... in order to keep the crank pulley register, i need to make it 1/2" thick, and then...

    head gasket concern (steel shim)

ok...i am ready to start reassembly of the top end, and noticed a difference in the steel shim head gaskets. the old ones have a rectangular box at each water passage, of which only about 1/3 of the area passes water, due to the alignment of the holes. The new gaskets only have a small slot...

does the balancer bolt hold the pulley?

I have looked at it, but haven't found a good angle to tell if the balancer bolt captures the pulley, or if i can take the pulley off with just the 6 bolts....

    what are these pistons???

the numbers are 3671052 and 3671053. I cannot find those numbers anywhere to determine what exactly they are..... my guess is that they are standard 1972 400 pistons, which would mean that I have a 8.2 compression ratio with 452 heads?????

ok...i know i'm new to mopar, so maybe that's it, BUT I never had antifreeze come out a valve cover bolt hole.... the motor is a 400....don't know what heads, that's one thing i wanted to find out while i had it off....but when antifreeze spewed out the hole, i put the bolt back in and ran...
