Grandpa's 62 Valiant

Average User Rating:
  • I have been working this monster for over 10 years. My grandfather bought the Valiant in Kingsport TN in 1963 as a demonstrator...Before she died, my aunt asked me to restore it. Sooo many years, and a lot of blood, sweat and tears later it's almost done. Still a few details, and it's by no means perfect, but getting closer.

It looked solid when we started and figured the body work would take a month and cost about $2K and the paint would be another $2K...little did I know it had some ugly history...T-boned and bent frame at some point, horrific body work from the 70's - almost 6" of bondo in some places!!! Finding parts is an expensive nightmare...but here it is...

Great looking early Valiant with a great story. Old cars are usually full of surprises. I love what you have done with it.

That is incredible how much work you've done.
A real credit to you. I actually know someone who has the same car, with exactly the same rear 1/4 damage - only found out when stripped.
    Well done.

Just turning over...a cough or pop now and again, but even with all new carb and electrical parts and good voltages, still not starting...

Have you checked the 3 things ?? Fuel ? Spark ? Compression ?

    4. gsoco ran fine before I took it to the body shop...since pulling the dash it has never been running right...I am thinking there is a grounding indication on the temp and fuel gauges either...ammeter is OK.
