Is there any reason why I shouldnt use a Mopar Performance thin head gasket (024-028) on my 360? The Felpro vesion is approx 040 thick and seems to be needlessly giving away compression

I've been running the old Direct Connection (Mopar Performance) steel shim head gaskets on the 360 in my Vart for about 18 years and have never had a problem with them. If your 360 has stock CR pistons like mine does, every little bit helps.

I just installed a set of these on my 318 to try and get every bit of compression possible. Asked around and never heard any negaitve feedback.

Thanks Guys, looks good. I have higher compression than standard but my guestimates still put the current compression at 9.0 at absolute best!

Just make sure your block and heads are flat. I use em on my 383 with spray and haven't had a problem yet (knock on wood)!

No problems with them. The small blocks are no longer steel shim tho..they are very thin composite. The big blocks are steel tho.

sounds good to me. The heads are freshly worked and the block bored and cleaned 1,000 miles back. which spray is recommended?

only use the spray if they are metal shim, otherwise i just wipe the block & head surface with lacquer thinner, then install the gaskets & torque the bolts. one thing i always do is replace the head bolts with new ones. you can get them from mopar perf. at a good price. never reuse the old head bolts! i have used these gaskets on several engines with no failures.

Hey, i wasnt old enought o drive, but I recall seeing them in the catalogs..does that count?? lol..

Not too bad...I'm a '70 model...LATE 70..model...but I've read the books...lol.

thanks guys, i'll order the head bolts as well. :thumblef:

if you use head bolts make sure to chase the threads in the block with a bottoming tap to get true tg reading.
