i have a 57 desoto engine i just picked up today, and after checking with a couple guys I thought might want it, theres noone that needs it right now. the story on it is it was garage kept since pulled out of a 57 desoto about roughly 10 years ago when it was replaced by a 413. It is not grimmed up too bad, the numbers i got off the block say 1737929. the intake says in three places 1630944 : S8-6 : 0267 . I dont have the head #'s right now but will add them later tonight. The engine is not seized, and turns over fairly easy. you get what you see in the pictures. It was garage kept all those years, and for the time being its outside, covered very well with the intake plugged. along with it, if wanted is a 57 cast iron tranny. I dont know too much about the tranny, its an auto pushbutton with the parking brake on the drum at the end of the tailshaft. I think its a 2 speed, but im not possitive. it comes with a torque converter, but no flex plate. it it weighs roughly a little over 200 lbs. see pics. it was kept inside aswell, and will remain inside til bought or scrapped. I have no idea what this would go for, if anything. I hate to list it with no price, but best offer takes it.

if anyone wants any more info, dont hesitate to ask.

*parts by tanny in photo are for magnum 318 not the poly *

message sent to me by fabo member, thought id share the info

"Saw your ad for the Desoto 301. I did some research on it since most of the old "poly" engines can be converted over to hemi's using the hemi heads. I have a few old hemi's and some extra parts, so that's why I was looking.

Your 301 is actually a Dodge block, Desoto started using a lot of Dodge engines in '57. Its an "A" block, so it actually same design as the 318 Poly engines. Its not a poly that is based off a hemi block though, and can't be converted. But it should share a lot of the same parts as the later 318 poly's that came in the early A bodies, so you might have some luck with selling to someone with a poly 318."

You don't need a flexplate for these. The torque convertor bolts directly to the crank.

bump. my bad also. the location is north canton, ohio

10 years is a long time. I don't have much knowledge on those but would want to stay informed, so will visit the forum again after a bit of research on what I just saw here. All the best.
