Hi
I'm new to the "A" body . Recently picked up a 1964 cuda with a 273. I am not very familiar with this engine. It is missing the intake.
I have heard rumors that an intake from a LA 318 or any sbm will work. But some people say they won't. Did they just make 2 barrel intakes for the 273? Or is there a 4 barrel intake?

The 64 and 65 273's had odd intake bolt angles and smaller bolts than the 66 and newer small blocks. It's the threads in the heads. 64 was 2 barrel only. There was a 4 barrel in 65. One year only.

What TMM says.

There are a few threads on here discussing either modification or using washers to make up for the difference in the bolt angle if you use a later intake.
Check the casting numbers to verify the motor and heads are 64 first.

Good luck

Yes, check out the sticky threads at the top of the small block and fuel/carburetion forums. you will find threads there.

If you do have the early 273 heads an Edelbrock D4b or mopar made a stock cast iron one for commando 273 engines. They are getting harder to find but there were 4 Edelbrock D4b intake manifolds at the Indianapolis swap meet. I see the early 273 mopar intakes on here from time to time. Place a want ad here I bet you will find both of them. Good luck

@coast2coastkidd85 might be able to help you out pretty soon if you will send him a PM to talk about it.

Unfortunately, I won’t be making the trip past Chicago for the D4B after all… after driving the family 18+ hours for the manifold and a few other parts I’m road tripping for… I just can’t justify another 10 hours to go get it. Sad face.

However, if twodog45 is still on the hunt for that specific manifold I do have the information and contact with the seller. As of the last we spoke, he will NOT part out or ship, and wants to sell as a total package, an edelbrock D4B, a cast factory Mopar 4 barrel and a set of heads. All early 64-65 on FBMP. So maybe if you’re closer than I am or willing to drive further it might just work out for you and you could end up with what I understand to be one of the Holy Grails of the early 273 manifolds. Best of luck!

Send me a PM and I’ll get you going on the link in you’re interested. Welcome to the group twodog45! You came to the right place!
