Hey guys ! I have a rear tailshaft seal leaking oil out of a 1965 dart 833 trans with the trunion driveshaft . can anyone tell me the procedure how to remove and install another new seal.. I seen two different style seals for this1965 833, one with a rubber boot on on a seal and another that looks like an axle seal.. Which style am I looking for since I did not remove that bad seal yet?
part numbers ?
Thanks for all your help fabo's!

On my 66 833 I had to use a tail shaft seal for 3-speed manual transmission, the 66 has a smaller tailshaft than the 67-up models, mine doesn't have the trunion set-up but I bet the 64-65 833's take the same seal as 1966. Mine looked like an axle seal without the dust boot. Hope this helps, not sure how to change it on the 64-65 ones though, they have that flange.

Here's what the 65 FSM says:

QUOTE
Rear Oil Seal
Removal

(1) Disconnect the propeller shaft at the transmission flange and secure the shaft to the frame member for working clearance.

(2) Hold the mainshaft with Tool C-3281, then remove the flange nut and washer.

(3) Remove the transmission flange, using Tool C454 if necessary.

(4) Remove the oil seal, using Tool C-748.

Installation

(1) Drive a new seal into the extension housing, using Tool C-3837.

(2) Install the transmission flange, washer and nut. Tighten nut to 175 foot-pounds torque.

(3) Reconnect the propeller shaft and tighten the flange nuts to 30 foot-pounds torque.

Guess if you worked at the dealer, you'd know what specialty tools to use.

Just looked at my 65 833 which is still attached to the motor down in my basement) and no dust boot on it. From what I can see it's like an axle seal. No part number and can a close-up pic if desired.

Thanks 65 dartman !

ok,, now I can go to the parts store see if they have one .
just wasn't sure if it had that rubber boot on it for 833 64-65.
Thanks !
