So I’m putting the 65 Dart back together after installing a new water pump but got to looking at the current alternator hookups and the ground doesn’t look right to me. The ground on this alt was gludged with a goofy bent two pronged connector to one of the alternator bracket bolts.

It charged fine with this set up before I took the alternator out it just seems like it should ground to chassis. Where was it originally grounded?

It may be dis-information or it may be that for some time he had a 70/ newer isolated field (improperly called dual field) on there which has two insulated brushes, and so one must be grounded to work with the 69/ earlier regulator

The alternator is bolted securely to the block, both by the main mounting bolt, and by the tensioner, and the battery must be "main" grounded to the block in order to crank the starter. You will not get much more "grounded" than that!!

Take a good look at that connection.
When you remove the ring terminal, the brush should look like the one on the right.
