1965 Dodge Dart Charger

-
Today I was able to make the last check up on the body before the red primer. The only thing I found was the hole around the gast filler neck!

After that has been adjusted the body will be red on Tuesday next week.

Got the chromed gas cap today! And I must admit that it looks absolutly mint. It seems that the description I made yesterday was correct. The inner center dome wqas spot welded after the cap was chromed.

It feels tuff to get rid of the chrome and paint it!

So now I thinking of reconsider my plans. I think the chromed cap will be right on perfect.

The manufacturer of the cap is S.M.00. Does anyone who that is?

Any comments of using the chromed one instead of the painted one?

Factory-installed caps had a painted body and either a painted or a chromed handle bar -- I've encountered both types as original equipment, but not a great enough number of them to try and discern a pattern of production date or location.

Service replacement cap 2074 054 was all chrome (because that way it went with the car no matter what colour).

The painted-body/chrome-handle variant always looked the best to my eye.

Dan! Do you have a picture on how that look? During 33 years into early a-bodies I have never seen that. I think it would look sweet!

:coffee2:

I have such a cap (in deep storage some 3800km from where I sit) but I have no pictures of it. You will have to use your imagination…!

Keith! Thank you so much for letting me know that. a Dartcharger centercap was on sale on ebay! Within 24 hours Kegan B sent me a notice too.

I really appriciate all the help I can get during this restoration.

Hats off guys!

I'll keep my eyes open. Thanks for letting me know.

Today I started to make a list of all the small stuff that I need to find. Now there is less stuff that I need to get compare to what I have and that's a good sign!!

One of the items that I need is the clamp that holds the return hose for the power steering. It's the same as theone on the hose between the air cleaner and the breather cap. I nned two of them.

Thanks FABO!

Wish I would've know this sooner. I had a bunch I took off my 64 that I threw away about a week ago. Replaced them all with worm clamps

Hi, I have been looking for a 273 - 4 barrel intake. Send me a PM and we can discuss what you need for a buy price and how it might get shipped to Ontario Canada.

Regards,
Roger

After searching for NOS weatherstrip the first one arrived today. Outer weatherstrip for quarter glass. Mint condition. There are small differences between the NOS one and the repopped versions.

Now I need seven more pieces....!! :banghead:

Your so crazy Ulf. Every last nut and bolt HAS to be NOS. Haha. It will be worth it in the end though.

After one and a half year the transmission showed up!! I mounted thev tranny to the engine and added the restored bolts. Fits like a glove!

The kick-down linkage is in Place as well as the Cables. The wiring for the neutral start switch is there incl the clips holding the wire to the tranmission body.

But I found out that the transmission front cover was wrong. It might be for a big block!!:banghead:

So I need to find a new one......

for more :toothy9:

The assebly lineworkers did some kind of a twist on the Cable co it will stay on the clamp with no slack!

The plate on the back of the lower kick-down braket bolt was yellow dichromated from start. Never seen one before.

The clamp that holds the speedometer gear drive was silver zinc and the bolt black phosphated.

I found a lower transmission shield and did a two hour cleaning and this is the way it came out. I have never seen these ones new. How was the finish from start??

When mounting the starter to the transmission it was held in place on the top with a black phosphated bolt but on the lowerpart it was a stud with a copperish coloured bolt holding the starter. Not sure of the reason!

The torque converter shield is galvanized. It cleaned up very well. tmm

tmm! You are so right! But ian't recallthat I've seen someone repop this finish. I was lucky today. From a friend I found this transmission case cover. It is not as shiny but it is complete. Does anyone know f it's possible to get the right finish done?

Picture 2 is the one from yesterday. I think it has more luster into it! But they might have differencies in the covers too as they did with alot of other stuff!

Today was the assembly day of the rear transmission mount including the rear bar! Looks great. Also added the brass couplings for the transmission cooler lines. Hopefully they show up from Classic Industries next week!

After searching through my inventory of junk this is the only left air inlet box I found. It need some work but it's the first one that I've seen that is restorable!!

I even found the partnumber printed into it as well as the name Chrysler Corporation!

The door had had a small bracket for a flasher so I need to weld that door and get a new isolation on the backside. The pins that mounts to the air duct is there as well as the screws and no cracks at the bottom either!

For1965 the gas tank was galvanized but what about the strap and the hook? I'm pretty sure that the strap was galvanized as well as the tank but I have checked out several J-hooks and they seems to be natural with a self locking nut with a red plastic insert.

Does any FABO members have any input to this? They do repop the J-hook with silver zinc finish but that's not assembly line correct!
