1965 Dodge Dart Charger

Better not run that engine Ulf it might get the oil filter oily! Lol!

Yeah, that would be a disaster, wouldn't it? LOL But think if I found some NOS oil......! hahahaha

Does anyone have any info about the power steering oil back in the days. Was that the same as the transmission oil , like red, or was it white oil?

Nooooo, definitely not the same as transmission fluid! It is only very recently (late '90s) that Chrysler started specifying transmission fluid in (certain) power steering systems. For a very long time, including on your '65, the correct fluid is Power Steering Fluid meeting Chrysler specifications. It is a colourless/undyed fluid.

Dan! I found some new Mopar power steering oil cans. They are from the 60ies! Do you think it will work?

:glasses7:

I think those would best be used as show/display accessories. Use current-day power steering fluid, which is much superior and can still easily be bought in the correct colourless variety.

In the last issue of the MCG there was an article by Frank Badalson. He says that all the water pipes on the big block was unpainted.

I did some searching on some intake manifolds I have and there was paint on the one owner engines.

Does anyone else know anything about this? What I found out on my Engine my water pipes for the heater hoses was painted. Could there have been changes between the assembly plants? :glasses7:

Thanks FABO!

Service replacement water hose fittings tended to come with red-lead primer on the hose nipple portion of the fitting.

What about the assembly line procedure? They mounted the fittings on the water pump qnd the intake manifold so the could add the by-pass hose. My thought is that by this time added the heater hose fittings too before they painted the engine. But at the same time they didn't want paint on the fittings before they added the hoses.

I don't know if the fittings had red lead primer or another coating on them before installation on the assembly line. I agree with you the fittings and the bypass hose were installed before engine paint.

Over the years I have bought some NOS pieces but they have a more shiny look compare to the assembly line parts I was fortunate to be given in 2009. They looks more steel gray.

The repops as you see on the picktures has been given a finish, like silver zink. Factory parts did'nt have anything, but I'm not sure if they were shot in primer!

After searching for years and not found any NOS transmission cooler lines I search the web and ask a bunch of FABO members about the best source. I bought a set of cooler lines from Classic Industries and the package arrived today. What a great set. I matched the pair with my old ones and they are perfect.

The biggest issue now os to locate the one of two brass fittings for the rear transmission cooler outlet on the transmission. I found the 45 degree angle but I'm not sure how the other part look like!!!!

A picture would be sweet and if someone has one for sale in great condition would be even better!

Thanks FABO

I might have found what I'm looking for! A nice guy in US has a bunch of NOS tires!

He has sent me a list of the tires that he got and I must say that it's close. probably as close as I can get!

The ones in the picture are Power Belt tires from 62. But he has Goodyear Power Cushion White and blackwalls from 1965 too!

After quite some time I finally got back the pie tin for the air cleaner.

First Picture is the decals that has been repopped.

Picture two is the factory pie tin with some paint off.

Picture Three is the reproduced ones I got made.

When I compare them the newest one seems like aluminium but the old one looked more chromed even if it not was chrome. I'm not sure what to do. Could there be differences over time how the aluminium take change in color?

Wow, looks terrific! The more specular appearance of the old pie tin is, by my guess, more or less a function of wear -- so I think the new repro is damn near perfect.

This is how it turned out. I'm satiesfied with it. Now I just wonder about the air filter decal on the side, should I have it or not?

That's entirely up to you. Everything else is coming out as it would from the assembly line, so why not?!

The factory air cleaner on my car had the decal on the right side. But I'm not sure if that was the original lid. I need to have pictures of one owners cars with chromed air cleaner assembled in Detroit, St Louis and Los Angeles. I need to know if all had it or if it just was one of the three factories.

My dads 66 Formula S Cuda never had a decal on it, he bought his car in 1976 and has pics of the engine, he said it never had one and his car has always been original
