1965 Dodge Dart engine

The Power Pack had a 4 barrel, 10.5 compression pistons, dual point distributor, bigger cam, chrome air cleaner and black wrinkle finished valve covers with aluminum heat sinks. The 272-2 barrel was rated at 180 horse and the 273-4 barrel was rated at 245 horsepower. Both engines had a solid lifter cam with adjustable rockers arms.

Cool thank you,
When i go to look under the hood of this dart, what should i be looking for to tell if its a 4 barrel?

Also what upgrades should i do to the engine?

It should look like this. If it's a Power Pack it doesn't need much.

You can also look at the fender tag to see if the car originally came with a Charger 273 4bbl. engine. There will be a 31 stamped under the AB (capital letters) Anything could have been done to it in the last 57 years, so, without pulling the engine apart, there really isn't any way to tell if all the original parts are still in there. If you're not particularly looking for high performance, just enjoy it the way it is, as long as it runs good. If you decide to make it a 4bbl with it's related parts, start a new request as there are all sorts of info we would need to give you sound advice.

Your right but thank you for the info.

I have another question and it has to go for the trim. I noticed on every 65 dart i've seen theres trim around the wheel well and those 3 vents at the bottom of the doors. The dart i found doesnt have any of those on it. Was that a option or was that on every model they made?

That might be a 270, or, some trim may have been changed. What does the interior look like?

Didnt get a good look inside. My dad saw it from the road when driving back home and knew the shop it was sitting in front of. We're trying to meet up with the owner this weekend so will get a better look at it.

If its a 270 it would still have the option for v8 273 charger? Is it worth doing? I know the GT would be worth doing haha.

Hey everyone,

First off i want to thank everyone for helping me out. After taking a 2nd look at the car me and my dad wont be getting. Its a lot more work then we first thought and it was hit in the back end and not sure if the frame is damaged from it. Here's some pics of the car, me and my dad both think it was a GT but it was a 6 cyl and not a true V8.

It is a work able car and does have all the parts needed to get it looking good but would be to much for me and dad at this time.

The fender top moldings and trunk panel are clearly GT. Wheel well trim and lower door chrome "vents" are missing, so be on the lookout for non-metallic rust repair. Any exhaust pipe on the right side is non-original. The hubcaps are 72-76 14" wheel covers. The brake booster looks like it's of similar vintage. Hopefully somebody converted to disks and large bolt pattern by fitting later running gear. Unless the bottom is totally rusted away, it's a great starting point.
