Came across a 67 formula S with a 273 Commando in it. What's the difference in the Commando and the regular 273's they put in them? are there any other upgrades on the car?

thanks :)

The 4bbl had higher compression, and were 4bbl - 235HP rated. Car should have E for 273-4 motor in the VIN. D represents 2bbl. Very nice score.

Couple of members are building those 273s to scream right now.

Also it had a solid lifter cam and adjustable rockers, dual exhaust, black valve covers, and probably something else I'm forgetting.

Sorry, 273 Commando motors never came with duals. The exhaust was larger though with a resonator and an exhaust tip. All 64 - 67 273s came with solid lifters, but the Commando motors came with a more radical cam, 10.5:1 compression, a dual point distributor, black wrinkle finish valve covers with aluminium finned plates, a chrome oil breather, chrome pcv cap, and a chrome low restriction air cleaner with a red "273 Commando" decal on it.

As far as the car itself the Formula S package included a heavy duty suspension, the Commando motor (273 4bbl 65-67, 340 68-69 & 383 67-69), Formula S badging, tach 65+66,14x5.5 wheels, Blue Streak tires 65+66, D70-14 Red Streak tires for 67, simulated mag hubcaps 65+66 & a deletable racing stripe 65+66.

You can look for front swaybar, K-H front disc brakes and 6 leaf rear springs on most S models. Might even have a sure grip rear end.

The suspension package was mandatory, but I think the brakes & sure grip may have been optional.

Both of my Formula S cars ( 65 & 68 ) did have discs & a suregrip.

No, I have not bought it, but if any of you red my thread in the welcome section, it's the same guy that owns the yellow one I posted. I may end up working for a trade on this instead of the yellow one, minimal rust (only on the bottom of the rear quarter panels). I'll get some pics next time I'm out there. it's not running, but looks to be an awesome project

here's some pics of what I'm working with, hopefully the guy will make a deal with me. I got it started up today and it sounds like a beast

ac AND power steering...though, i'm not gonna lie, the silver one with the white top is way better....69 with a big block. definately can't afford that one though

Big blocks are great but that car looks like it`s all there and with PS, power brakes, A/C, and A/T how can you go wrong? Go for it! :-D

That car appears too complete and too unmolested to pass on. It's red, loaded, and desirable.

it looks to me like it's missing the fuel line that goes just from the side of the carb over to the fuel filter, other than that, I can't find anything else missing

well, I talked to the owners son today and there's a very good chance that I can get the formula S by trading work. I'm starting next week dropping a 273 and tranny in a 67 coupe that's freshly painted. I'm afraid that I'm gonna gouge it lol. he also wants breaks done and the fuel take steamed, that's help make generate a down payment for it

I'll take some pics as the engine goes in the other one :)

alright, started putting the engine in on monday, getting pretty close to being done. alternator and radiator hoses are coming in tomorrow, and then there's just a few more wires to trace and get hooked up.
