Hi everybody

Everybody knows that Mr. Norm produced 48 GSS 440s. But does anybody know all the colors? What I know is that a total of 18 were black and two were silver buffed. What I also know is that at least two were yellow, two were racing green, one burgundy and one medium gold.

But which color had the rest of the 22 GSSs?

Can anybody help?

Thank you

Kind regards

Roby

I know of 13 GSS's as follows:

3-Yellow
1-Black
2-Gold
1-Dark Green
1-Dark Blue
2-Silver
1-Burgundy
1-Turquoise
1-Red

I have been into these cars for 34 years now and have worked with Mr. Norm for the last 5 years and these are all that I know of.

Jim

2 = AA1 (buffed silver metallic, extra coast)
2 = JJ1 (medium gold metallic)
2 = GG1 (racing green metallic)
1 = RR1 (burgundy metallic)
1 = PP1 (red)
1 = KK1 (medium turquoise metallic)

Special Thanx to Jim

Roby

I know there used to be a white (original) one here in new england back in the eighties.

GREAT GREAT GREAT

only 16 colors remaining:blob:
Does anybody else know more original GSS colors?

Thank you so much for any help

Roby

P.S. AWESOME your SUPERBIRD:thumbup:

BTW, where did you get the info that 18 of them were black? Knowing Norm as I do there is no way he would have ordered that many of one color. I know the whereabouts of all but two of the cars of the 13 I know about today. I lost track of the red one and one of the gold ones. Here is a picture of the silver GSS that I showed for my boss last year at the Winternationals.

Hi Jim

Thanx for the great picture!:blob: The GSS belongs to Bill Sefton. Bill is the owner of three GSSs! A black, this silver and a burgundy. I don't know, if he owns more....

Jim, check the Mopar Milestones Collector (issued in 2009). There it is written that 18 GSSs were black.

Küsnacht (ZH)
Jim, if you know more colors of the remaining 16 GSSs please let me know.

Also to all Mopar Drivers. If someone knows more colors, please just keep it posted.

Thanx

Roby

OK, I have that magazine but I guess I didn't see that fact! I worked for Bill for last 5 years until last September when his new manager fired me. For the last few shows of last year I worked with Mr. Norm and plan on working with him for some of the shows this year.

I took this pic at MMW in Indy last year. I think this GSS has a hemi though. Pretty car and great color IMO

Yep, that is the first new GSS made in 2008. I had that display at MMW, one of my last shows. I wish I could have brought a real GSS to the show, but we were downsizing by then.

The First of 40 new GSS belongs also to Bill Sefton. Produced on September 30th, 2006. WHAT A CAR:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Hi Everybody

At the Mopar Meeting 2007 in Japan there was a Dart GSS. Can anybody tell me, if it's an original GSS? What color has the GSS? Could it be racing green? The Bumble Bee is black.

Thank you for any help?

The pictures are very little. Sorry for that

I would need more info to able to determine if it is a real 68 GSS. I found the magazine and the info in there is not correct. Bill owns the only black GSS known to exist, and in the article it stated that there were 18, but it was a typo and they meant to say 48 total. In reality the car started life as a white top white stripe car, but since a previous owner changed it to black top and red stripe, then the model came out in those colors it was decided to restore it to the model's pictures. I am not sure if the total number of known GSS's is accurate or not, I will check with Galen to see what he has on his list. These are just the cars that I know of, and my list is what I typed above.

Hi Jim! WOW what a good memory you got!

About the GSS living in Japan I don't have any information, if it's a real GSS. Maybe does Galen knows more. Please ask him, if you don't mind.

About Bill Sefton black GSS I knew that the Vinylroof and the bumble bee original white were. Just check the FenderTag.

Hi Jim

I think you're right!

"Another Mopar that stands out for Sefton is a 1968 GSS Dodge Dart, black with red butt-stripe, only one of 18 ever built."

I think they should have tiped 48 and not 18. But Jim how many black GSS were build?

Thanx

Roby

So far Bill's is the only black car that has been documented. I only know about the colors that I posted earlier.

Jim

Jim,

Can you tell me of all 13 GSSs you know the interior, Vinylroof and Bumble Bee colors?

Here's a list what I know:

1 xBB1 (black) black interior, white Vinylroof and Bumble Bee (today the Vinylroof is black and the Bumble Bee red)

2 x SS1 (yellow) black interior, Vinylroof and Bumble Bee

1 x AA1 (silver) black interior, Vinylroof and Bumble Bee

1 x JJ1 (medium gold met.) beige interior, black Vinylroof and Bumble Bee

1 x GG1 (racing green met.) white interior, Vinylroof and Bumble Bee

1 x RR1 (burgundy met.) white interior, Vinylroof and Bumble Bee

Jim can you tell me about the third yellow, the second medium gold, the second silver, the red, the medium turqouise and the dark blue? Thanx

What about the white one? Don't you know this one?

Jim there's a picture of a racing green met. Do you know anthing about this GSS? Is it a real GSS?
mail

Thank you

Roby

I do not know of the GG1 GSS you had pictures of earlier, or the white GSS. I saw the blue one today, it is in pieces rusting away outside in the snow! No idea if it had a vinyl top or stripe. The two yellow GSS's have black top and black stripe, the third one has no top or stripe. The rest of the GSS's have black tops and black stripes, except the turquoise GSS that has a white top and stripe.

Hi FanofPetty

Can you tell me more about the original WW1 (white) GSS? Color of the Vinylroof, Bumble Bee yes or no and the interior color.

Thanx Roby

I just bought a 440 engine block from one of the 48 original 1968 GSS's! It has a VIN on the bellhousing rail that is in sequence with the known GSS's but now I need to figure out if the car is still around.

Hi Jim

WOW I'm speechless!!!!! You're a lucky man!!!! Did you find out, from which GSS the engine is? Tell me how you found the engine!

By the way Jim, about the third yellow GSS you wrote that it hasn't any stripe, but the horizontal stripe was on the GTSs (GSSs) standard. I don't think that Mr. Norm took the horizontal stripe away. Did you mean that it hasn't any bumble bee stripe but the horizontal stripe?

Thanx

Roby

I knew about the block for awhile as I know the seller but I never took a good look at it until a buddy of mine said he took a look and saw the drilled and tapped holes in the oil pump bosses! It was at the Indy swap meet and I was selling parts, so I took a better look that is when I noticed the shaved motor mount boss and the VIN was on the bellhousing rail, and it fell within the known VIN numbers of the GSS's that I had documented, so there was no doubt in my mind!

Regarding the stripes, it is my understanding that none of the GSS Darts had the horizontal stripe because Norm did not want that stripe, so it was bumblebee or none at all. Three of the GSS's that I have seen have the original paint on them with two having bumblebee stripes and one (the yellow one) had no stripe and there was never any evidence it ever had a stripe.
