1968 SS Dart in progress

-
LOL. I'm pretty sure I burnt him out on the thought of another kid so good luck :poke:

:banghead: I made more progress on the dart and it is something I really didn't want to have to deal with but in the end will make the car appear more authentic. I have also taken the opportunity to chronicle (pictures) the fabrication of making 1969 door lock holes correct to 1968 specifications. A simple job really, and one that will allow me to use the replated 1968 door latches I already have.
I will sand and paint either tomorrow or next weekend. Refund check is coming and I intend to purchase several of the dash pieces I need to finish it, glass seals, headliner, etc..

Hello all. It's been a while since my last post and I have been busy making some progress on the Dart. Would of loved to make more but nave had to fork out over 8K on a new A/C unit for the house! Damn, the money is flying everywhere these days!

I purchased a new dash pad, a super nice set of factory original lower dash pads, painted the dash, installed dash mount gauge mount with gauges, vents, new glove box, ran the dash wiring and installed new dor jam switches for dome light, removed old rear roll cage down bars and installed new straight bars without the bend, purchased new door, quarter, and vent window plexiglass. Amazing that all of the new side windows made of plexiglass weigh as much as a single door window. Significant weight savings there.
Installed new door jam and trunk rubber, door bumpers etc.
I just picked up the 15" Cragar SS wheels from my Dad today. They were on one of the Hemi Cuda builds he did for a customer around 5 years ago and the customer has since converted the car from the orange to a Sox and Martin tribute car. Thus, the wheels were exchanged for a new set of keystone classics and the Cragar's were placed into storage. They are in mint condition, pre-drilled for slicks and the fronts are 4" wide which Cragar does not manufacture anymore (all 4 1/2" now). Got a screaming deal at $400.00 for the whole set!
The headliner will be going in at some point in the not so distant future, a new windshield and rear glass need to be ordered as well. The original windshield was in the usual destroyed condition upon purchasing the car and the rear glass is scratched beyond repair. All original untinted side glass is in similar scratched condition.
Dad went out to Mopar's at the Strip and scored me a nice Edelbrock Performer RPM dual plane intake manifold and a nice set of vintage Holley finned cast aluminum calve covers. At $200.00 for all of it I think it was a pretty good deal.

Made some progress since last May. Had headliner professionally installed. Installed MSD digital 6AL ignition box, Holley HP 125 fuel pump, new engine wiring harness and slicks. Purchased a good used Holley 850 double pumper with mechanical secondaries. Going to drop off some chrome and polish work so I can finish door assemblies with plexi glass I purchased last summer. Currently selling off a bunch of car parts from past projects. Going well so far.

Awesome build for sure ! I would just like to add, I have spoken with your dad (Greg) on the phone a few times and he has helped me out tremendously on my 69 build. I can't say enough nice things about him, a real gentleman, you should be proud.
Ralph.

That is one beautiful car! Nice job changing the door locks. That is the first thing I look at on these cars and you would be surprised how many people miss that when they build one of these cars.

Thanks for the compliment referencing my Father (Greg). Dad has always been a gracious man and that is part of what makes him such a cool cat! I am honored to hear your thoughts. Definitely a big part of what keeps me motivated :).

did you see the pictures from MATS?

Progression at last! Time has left me yearning for funds to progress my Dart build and I finally have more of the almighty dollar to spend! Just purchased and received complete new tail light assemblies, headlight bezels, all necessary dash bezels including heater delete panel, Bridgestone bias-ply 6.70x15 tires for the front, new windshield and installation (in the works this week or next), all necessary paint to finish interior trim panels and pieces, etc... My Dad has partnered with me on the car and is building a very nice 440 along with a 727 torqueflite. I will be finishing up the interior after placing order at legendary auto interiors for correct SS door panels and rear inner quarter window panels. Funny how money helps :).

Nice chris! hey hit that delete plate with some 400 wet and then satin black it!

also we had to replace the compressor motor! it blew all three capacitors, replaced them and then the motor went! ouch!

Yep. I just forgot to pull it out of the picture. Gonna prime it first, sand it, and paint it with some SEM trim black :).

Oh crap! The damn motor? What a colossal expenditure of time and money. Gotta have it though. Bet Dad was ticked!
