I thought I would start another thread for this rather than hijacking FUEL TANK INSTALLATION ORDER. I tried installing my new tank today (Spectra I think...I bought it a few years back...no vents) and it looks like the filler hole is too far forward. The straps don't fit into the grooves either. I'm not sure I have things right 1) its a 68/69 tank 2) I need a 72 tank. Is this correct? I believe @davescuda mentioned this in the other thread.

I am totally confused now. If I look at the 521 Restorations site they just sell the Spectra tanks and say the CR11E is good for '70. I'm ready to start cutting and welding.

I asked the the Tech guy, Gord if he could put eyes on a CR11C vs a CR11E. I'll post what he comes back with.

Here's what I have ascertained about the tanks......

68 & 69........Filler hole too far forward no vent.
70........correct filler hole with no vent.
71........correct filler hole but with 4 vents.
72+......correct filler hole 1 vent.

Just plug the vent hole on the CR11E or use it as a bypass.

That would be great. I’m guessing I have the CR11C. I think the guy who sold it to me (local Mopar guy and a strange dude) knew it wouldn’t fit.

There is no company that makes a real 1970 fuel tank. The one you have is a 68 -69 tank it moves the filler tube forward. I use a late 71 and up fuel tank with one nipple on it. 521 registrations are ending selling of their spectrum tanks and only going to sell the ones they manufacture with the correct restoration bottom

Yup, same one I have. I got it with a restoration that went bad....(before it even started).

Is the 71 Demon supposed to be the same as the 70 Dart?

It does look they are dumping some tanks. What is confusing is that they are still using the Spectra #s and mention ‘ new tooling’.

Most 71 a bodies have the 4 nipple tank. Late 71 cars went to a 72 style tank with the one nipple.
So the Spectra CR11E will fit but it will have a vent (which I don’t care about). Still confused

Yeah I’m not sure why. Actually Scott Smith from harms carburetors and I talk to Jim ( I believe) at 521 restoration to get him to make the correct bottoms of the fuel tanks. I tried to get him to make the 70 tank but he did not want to make the one your only tank. I tried talking to spectrum years ago and they say in the parts book it’s correct so they weren’t gonna change it, also talk to vans who makes gas tanks they said the same thing but they are all wrong

Before 521 made the new gas tanks, I use the spectrum 1972 a body fuel tank with one nipple (plugged it) and used it in my 70 Duster

The picture with the red circle is the tanks that they’ve been making aftermarket for years. The other one is the new tooling made as original tanks. They have the correct bottom from 68 to 76

The title should be changed to 1970 A Body Fuel Tanks. Should become a sticky add to fuel systems

For those of you with a 1970 and the 4 vent EEC system that upgraded to the CR11E new tooling tank, where did you vent the tank? Filler neck? vented cap? Just looking at my options with this single vent tank. The website mentions plugging the single vent for a 1970. My current original 4 vent EEC system is in place and the steel vent line that runs up to the engine bay is just open at the end.

Drill a hole on the top of your filler tube like the older 68 69,70 are. Tap the hole. Make a nipple of a piece of brake line thread it. Some green Loctite. Be careful not to over tighten. Lube the small rubber hose and clamp it. Then connect to the steel vent line that runs on the side of the filler tube and vents out trunk floor like the 70 style.
