1970 Dart gas tank removal

Ready to remove the straps and drop the tank out. Will the "filler tube" simply slide out out the tank as I start to lower the tank down? or do you remove all the screws that secure the filler tube to the quarter panel and trunk floor and remove the filler tube BEFORE attempting to drop the tank down? I'll wait to hear back before I tackle this. Thanks so much.

I usually pull the filler tube out first. I have dropped a tank with it in but it didn't just side it was a pain in the rear.

I have removed all scews securing the filler tube to the quarter panel and trunk floor and can turn the filler tube inside the gas tank but not enough clearance to pull it out with the gas tank still in place?

Can you slide the filler tube out thru the quarter panel? That is how mine comes out, but it's a 72. If not, maybe you can lower the gas tank a bit to get the clearance needed.
