Help. What is or are the correct emblems for a 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger 340? I’m restoring my car and the trunk deck emblem was not in place. The trunk outside has two holes. The trunk inside has provisions for three holes. Pictures attached. I bought a new script Dodge emblem from YearOne. It was labeled as fitting both the hood and trunk but none of the four pins on the emblem line up. I’ve tried looking up pictures of 1970 Darts and got more lost as some have the script Dodge emblem and some have the Dart and Swinger emblems (same as what is found on the rear quarters) on them. They would never work as I’d never be able to attach the nut to the backside of the emblems. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

Here are pictures of two 1970 340 swingers That I owned in the 80's The third picture is a 340 swinger I sold with a deck lid on it from a Dart Custom. Swingers never had the chrome across the deck lid. And I owned many of them. Yours did, So I would say either your car started life as a custom or it had another decklid installed sometime in life. I had done this to some in the past and added the Chrome on some builds. If it was the only deck lid I had at the time

Thanks. So it would appear my deck lid was changed and there is a different, two pin script Dodge emblem that fits a Dart Custom evidenced by your last picture. Better option to find the right emblem to fit versus finding another deck lid considering mine is great shape.

my '72 swinger with 318 had the rear chrome package (M88) but had only the DODGE block script by then which was stick on, no pins. I believe the 4 pin, cursive emblem was for the hood and the 3 pin emblem for the trunk for the 70 Dart without 340. With 340 had like the pics above with dart swinger

So OE, Dart & Swinger emblems are correct emblems for a Swinger 340 trunk lid, which based on my VIN, is what the car left the factory as. Without modifying the inside of the trunk to be able to use the emblem nuts, I can stick on Dart & Swinger emblem. Or, if I don’t care, find a two pin script Dodge emblem and take the abuse that it’s not be factory correct. Thanks for all the comments and pictures.

On the Dart Swinger Your deck lid has the holes in the inner panel to put the nuts on the swinger if you wish. But you can use the push pin style. The Dart is a push pin no nuts. You can hold a piece of brass behind all the holes and mig weld them shut . I can't tell you how many I have done, No holes on a swinger deck lid for belt chrome

So all 1970 Darts had a 2 post Dodge script. They are rare and nobody repops them. They are identical to the 4 post Dodge script on the hood but with 2 posts in different places. a lot of cars have been redrilled to put the hood emblem in the right place on the trunk lid before paint (you should close the 2 post holes). If you want to do that I have a Dodge 2 post emblem that isn't good for using (pits, etc) but is great to figure out where the emblem should be if you redrill.

This is all true EXCEPT FOR SWINGER 340. All 1970 Swinger 340s have a Dart badge and a Swinger badge that are identical to the ones on the rear quarter panels on the right side of the trunk lid.

These cars are now 54 years old. Having the Dodge script on the trunk used to be a sign that the car was not an original 340 car, but after all this time, and as easy as it is to swap a trunk lid due to rust or collision damage, it is now only a sign that the owner (or prospective buyer) should do their due diligence to know what they have.

In 70, you could pay for that trim on any Dart, but given the Swinger was a low trim, low cost model, they hardly ever had it... true of the belt molding just below the windows, or the trim surrounding the grille on the hood edge and to either side.
