Just a quick question.. What is the widest rear tire you can possibly fit with stock leafspring placement and stock wheel wells. No rubbing, no mini tubbing, no spring relocation. On a 1970 Dodge Dart. Any help appreciated.

I just installed 15 x 7 with 4 3/16 BS with 245/60/15 on the rear of a 70 dart completely stock. Have about 3/4 inch to spring and 1/4 to wheel lip. If I would roll the lip, could have went with 255/60/15. Also depends on rear ride height , if you use air shocks or anything that raises the height it helps to get a wider tire under there. Hope this helps.

thanks snewpy! hey i would love to see a photo of your car for reference as you did exactly what i wnated to do. What size front rim and tire are you running? thanks.

i have American Racing Outlaw II's on the back of my '71, they are 15x8. i have no idea what backspace, they were already on the car when i got it. the tires are 255/60-15 BfGoodrich Radial T/A's. they fit with no rubbing either, close to the leaf spring and the fender lip, but no problems yet. i do plan on later changing them out for 15x7 steel rims with the same size tire. i'm going with the black steel rims and dog dishes for awhile.

70 360 Dart I dont have any pics I just installed them for a customer. Sorry

I have a 1970 Dart that i just put 15x7s on the back with 4 1/4 backspacing..stock spring location. I will post pics up when i get back to work seeing as their on that computer.

I have 275/60/15's on my 75. I think the fenderwell measurements are the same as yours.

I have a 1968 Dart with an 8 3/4 rear, stock 10" drums, 15x8 Weld Draglites, stock leaf springs and placement, stock wheel tubs, and a 265/50r15 Futura tire (Pep Boys). I have 3/4" clearance from the tire to the spring, over 1" to the inner wheel well, and I trimmed the outer wheel lip down to get 5/8" from the sidewall to the lip.

i just today got my car back on the ground after installing the Southside Machine lift bars i have. it now sits alot lower in the back than it did before. i also now have very little clearance between the fender lip and my tires, about a half inch. the rims are "0" offset marked on the backside and are 15x8's. i'm thinking about folding or rolling the lips in and flat so they are nice and smooth, just in case the tire does contact them. i am worried later about wrinklewall slicks contacting the sharp edge if i just cut them back for clearance.

I just attempted to install this same rim and tire on my 69 with the same 4 3/16" BS but it wouldn't fit. Are the 70s wheel wells any different than the 69s? Something doesn't make sense on my car :angry7: I am beginning to wonder if I have a B-body 8 3/4.

when i bought the rims and tires for my car i tried them on jamies car.. its a 69 dart with all stock suspension and a 8 3/4 rear with big bolt axles and c-body drum brakes. i fit a 225/50-17 ( 25.9 X 8.9") on the rear.. the rim is a 17 X 8 with a 5.72 back space...

Thanks for the pics Joe, I am thinking if I go with 5" of BS then the tires should slip in there.

It sure seems like 15 x 8 weld wheels with the 4.25 or 4.5 backspace and a 245 to 275 tire fit the a bodies. I am hoping anyway as I plan to purchase some used pro stars or draglites when I find them!!!
