Hi all!
I am wanting to verify that I have a good understanding of how to jack up a 1970 Duster that I recently came into possession of so my friend and I can work on it safely. I have almost no experience with serious car repair so feel free to point out where I am going wrong. I have read to where I feel like I have a good idea of what I am looking for but have not been able to find anything specific to my car year/model so I am not sure.
In short, my understanding is that if I need to work under the front I should use a floor jack under the K-Member and use jack stands under the control arms:
And then for lifting the back up I should use a floor jack on the rear diff and use jack stands on the axle. I did notice that the rear diff has a giant lip on it and was wondering if I can just set the floor jack ahead of it (towards the front of the car) or would that be unsafe although it sees like setting the jack on the lip would be really bad to try to lift up the car. I also have also see people using shop towels and the like on the saddle of their floor jack to help prevent damaging the differential.
I was wondering it would also be a good option to set a jack stand on the frame instead of the axle in the back.
If I have misunderstood anything or if this is incorrect for Dusters please let me know. Any pointers, warnings, and heads up are welcome and thanks so much for any and all input!
