Just two related things about buying and selling A bodies in general.

I looked at a survivor 273-65 Barracuda and a survivor 318-74 Duster in the last six months. Both solid unmolested and relatively well-maintained cars.
I am shopping for something for my son.
I was the first person to look at the cars.
Both were 2500 dollars.
I passed up both cars.
The reason?
Not the right car.
Not the right time.
Resale was not my reason for looking.
Could I have resold them for more?
Maybe so.
But that’s not my objective.
Don’t have time to be a used car dealer.

Thought for the day:
Not only are they not making anymore A bodies.
There are probably fewer and fewer people that want one.
The cars go to the crusher and we go someplace else.
Now more and more people want Hondas.
And the rest of us aren’t getting any younger.

rlk340 I have a 1971 duster I will sell you for 2500.00 rust free calif car setting in my back yard it is a pretty nice car for the money or make me a offer..it ita slant 6 car automatic. A litte better shape then what the station wagon was.

hmmm, maybe u are confusing 60`s and 70`s MUSCLECAR MANIA with world war one vets who are all nearly dead and their waning sport of collecting "tin lizzys" (Model T fords)
i`m not ready to lay down and die, nor is Peterson Publishing, or Year One, or SEMA...or or or!
so with a multi billion dollar (yearly) industry, where do u get such an idea that these cars arent wanted, COVETED and sought after?
didn`t u readily admit to you AND your son wanting one???

I hope there are fewer people that want them Unfortunately I dont think the prices will ever go down. The days of picking up a solid running driving A body for $3000 on the east coast is long gone.

Rim Blow wheels are more common in A bodies then in E bodies. Mine had one that was pretty rough so I unloaded it on a e body guy for twice the price I paid for a new Grant Tuff wheel.

right now these "lesser" A- bodies are on the low end of Mopar collectibilty.
these are what SOME of us can afford...to be part of this awesome culture.
as we can`t touch the original, pristine, big block, rare cars, B- bodies or E- bodies!
all else being equal? these prices will NEVER come down!
mine is no longer for sale...won`t be in my lifetime, call my kids in about 15 years...maybe THEY WILL SELL IT TO YOU??? (doubt it!)
 
Where I come from that car would get at least $3000. What's wrong with someone buying a car and then reselling it? Do you guys only want "barn fresh" one owner cars? You'd better start looking for an '80's 4-door Cutlass or something then.

what gets me...really gets me as u can see if u track my posts...theres a consistent theme;
I DON`T LIKE UNEDUCATED CONSUMERS
speaking as one who HAS sold thousands of cars (i used to sell new and used vehicles) it appals me when wise mouthed know nothings complain about the condition or price of a vehicle!
sellers will haggle and oftentimes reduce thir price...and everybody loves to brag about getting a great deal!
now lately i had offered my 71 slant swinger for sale (for less than i have in it...and it ain`t done...yet!)
i had overwhelming response, mainly by younger uninformed buyers (or tire kicking wanna-be`s/not buying) and although they know OF these cars...they know NOTHING about them, their value or repairing them.
so yes they looked at my diamond in the rough and were scared away due to their own ignorance...wasting my time and giving me attitude!
so again; PUT UP OR SHUT UP...and mines no longer for sale...not that theres anything wrong with a great deal...or a profit!

Publishers, manufactures, used car dealers.
They come and they go.
I’ve lived long enough to have seen that.
Sounds like you have too.
First hand.

“These cars” takes in a lot of territory.
And I have neither the problem of lack of money nor covetousness.
(Thankfully)

See the definition of “assumption”.
He actually didn’t want a Duster.
And I don’t need it.
But someone bought both cars.
As they say: “There’s an *** for every seat”.

I think you and I probably agree on more than we disagree on.

Huh, yes I wrote that. But I did not mention the waning sport of collecting tin lizzys.
Did that happen?
Have they gone down in “value”?
Has this happened to other cars?

Let’s put it this way then:
Since you made the connection maybe you see (fear) parallels.

The “consistent theme” that I see in you post is money.
And anger at those that don’t value it like you do.
That what I see, anyway.
That’s not a judgment. Just an observation.
Just like I made no judgments about the car, which is listed in the post.
Just gave information for those that might be interested in what cars are bringing in other parts of the county.
(Some think that positive or neutral comments in a for sale post are a welcomed bump.)

You see, the probable difference between you and me is that I don’t care what my car is worth.
I drive what I want to.
I don’t need to touch the original, pristine, big block rare cars.
Most people originally bought A bodies for good reason.
They were the better cars for moving from point A to point B.
That is why there are (were) so many of them.
And they are the only hope for a viable hobby.
Maybe someday the Hemi Cudas will have a convention.
All three of them.

I could afford to drive most any car made.
Mine is (are) not for sale either.
And I get ask often, especially since I drive it everywhere regardless of the day or weather.
My son lost interest in his Swinger so I sold it.
Things change.
You know your children better than I do.
What will the sell or keep?
In fifteen years we’ll find out.
If we are still here.

I have saved some A bodies.
But I can’t save them all.
They are cut up, parted out and crushed because it is not worth the “money” to resurrect them.
A few high dollar cars continue to appreciate at Barrett Jackson.
But I hear prices on many of those have come down.
That’s what I hear.
I don’t keep up with it closely.
Doesn’t matter to me.
Have you tried Barrett Jackson for selling your Swinger?
Aerosmith has a good song for that.
