Well, crap! I ckd under my 74 Valiant Brougham and was hoping it might be at least the 81/4 because it did come stock with the 318, but it sure looks (by the rear end spotters guide) more like a 71/4. Is there anywhere on the fender tag I can see what originally came under there? Any advice? anywhere reputable places to score a 81/4 or better without leaving the family destitute? Im really kind of stuck now, it looks like my mild sleeper Duster project may be more of a pud when it all said and done....

How much $ would leave the family destitute? You can get an A body 8.25 for ~$100 to $300. Just keep your eye out for used car part ads or locals rags.

The fender tag won't tell you what rear end the car has. How many bolts does it have on the back?

I hear ya, I have a 71 Swinger 318 car. I figured it would have at least 8 1/4 but no. It has the 7 1/4. I lucked out and found a 8 3/4 out of a 65 belvadere (sp) for an expensive $125. at a local scrap yard. OK not so expensive. I am not sure of cast numbers yet to cold to get it out from under the car right now. So long story short, there are still folks out there that are just trying to get rid of their JUNK.

Ok, thanks for the advice. Not a scary price, but I still have to find one. Is there any list of vehicle rear ends that will change over? I know the obvious A bodies stuff, but I dont want to do major mods or have other problems to get one under the Duster, anything I should be especially looking for at the junkyards or in the ads?
