I have a chance to pick up 2 360 engines. A 73 and a 75 230 one year only block. Can anyone tell me the good and the bad of the 75 230 block number 360?

Thanks Guys and Gals.

What exactly is a 360 one-year block ?
The block for 1975 had it's own part number ending in 230. It was a one year only block. I'm trying to find out if it's a thick wall block or thin wall like the 76 and later blocks.

I know the 230 400 block is preferred for stroker applications. I don't know anything about the 360 version.....
And the reports of the later 400 and 440 blocks being thin wall, is a myth.
Maybe the "thin wall" 360 blocks is a myth too
As above, have em sonic tested. Great advice!

For your own peace of mind, have them sonic tested.
There is no good year/bad year.
Best answer right there.

I’ve had the supposed early 340 blocks that are said to be able to be bored out to 4.100 sonic check crap walls as cast @ less than .060 thick.

IMO, it’s he good block/bad block years are myth and bullshit.
The only true way to know is sonic check the block.

Sonic check is ALWAYS a good idea. You may have seven great cylinders, and one thin one. Wouldn't you rather know it needs a sleeve BEFORE you put money into machine work and parts purchase?

I don't plan to use the 75 engine. I'm going to sell it. I'm just trying to gauge it's value and learn a little along the way.

Core shifts can happen with any year or casting. Sonic testing is the only way to tell how much a block can be bored.

SMH, tough to call, perhaps, $200. A running engine that you could prove in front of a prospective buyer would be easier and worth more. But what your honestly presenting is a builders core.

Exactly. It is a builders core. I'll get it checked out and see who's interested in buying it. Maybe I learn more about the 75 engine in the process. I been building BB mopars and never paid much attention to the la stuff till the last year or two. Thanks

There is nothing special about a ‘75 engine, zero, zip, nada

except that it isn't a 71 to 74 block and it isn't a 76 and later block. I'm not looking for special. I'm looking for info on why it's a one year only and if it is considered a good starting point or if it's a less desirable starting point. And what and why it's a one year only deal. Someone knows.

There is info that that 230 casting was in production from 71-75

It's not special if an OEM produiction block with a vin number pad on it. Look on pass side just above pan rail. Near drain plug. If there is a number or machined pad, OEM production block.

Check flat pad, front of block just below deck surface for stamping as well.

Very good. I did buy A book on these and it says it's a 75 only block. Not doughting you just saying I am trying to find info. BUT, It has a factory warranty block tag on the side. A crucial piece of information that I failed to include in my original post. My bad. I wonder if they used them as rv blocks and warranty blocks. I'll see if there is a vin on it but being a warranty block. Not likely. Thank you. #3870230

I appreciate your help. But believe it or not there are other people here with knowledge also. And some of them are more helpful than others and some without the ego some others have. I'll continue to accept help and info on this subject. Sorry I hurt your feelings.

Hey now. That was rude. You assume much. You don’t have to be a dick about it.

I'm particularly intrigued with the extra material added to the T/A block main webs to facilitate "3 bolt main caps", I'd like to see one of those...

I just want to understand why there are 2 different casting numbers for blocks from 75 to 78. Were they built in different places? Why would they do this? Makes little sense unless something is different about one of the blocks. The one I have came from a truck. Were they heavy truck blocks? Warranty blocks? I just figured someone on this forum will have the history and know why they did it. Thanks for the information.

So I got a couple pics. Interesting enough it is a 3870230 block but it's a 74.
