I have recently aquired a .030 bored 1989 360 block (LA, not Magnum), set up with the factory roller cam. I am going to stroke it with Stage 2 Indy-Eldy heads and an M1, so I won't be using the factory cam.

Question:
1. Can the used roller lifters be used with a new cam? (they appear to be in good shape)
2. Are they ok for performance applications?
3. Should I buy new Mopar roller tappets, or just go with a flat tappet?

Thanks!

i have read that roller lifters can be re-used but make sure its a roller cam
top end cams are roller due to faster lift rates, so yes they are great for hp applications

I feel conforatable with the lifters, now I am curious if that setup can handle a 0.525 lift on the cam, whereas the stock cam looked like:

360 1989-91 truck 20878-18539
050 DUR LIFT ADV DUR LOBE
INT/EXH INT/EXH INT/EXH SEP.
190/190 .390/.390 269/269 115 20878-18539

Any other thoughts?

Twice I have reused the mopar lifters on a new hughes cam with no problems.

Just to confirm, were they the 89-92 non-magnum hydraulic rollers lifters from the LA 360?
Did you use the factory roller lifter retainer setup?
What lift cam did you have?

Thanks!

The two cams I did were in a magnum engines. I looked at a lifter from a premagnum engine just last week and they looked the same as the magnum. I didn't do a side by side to comparison, but I am very sure they are interchangeable. It even had the pushrod oil hole.

I did use the factory roller lifter retainer set-up (I assume you are talking lifter retainer, not valve retainer). The lift was approx .560 at the valve with 1.6 ratio rockers.

I built two engines for my circle track car using the hyd roller set-up and never had any camshaft or lifter issues. And these engines were run hard.

I put together a 89-90 360 roller motor and planned on using the Comp retro hydraulic rollers... until we found out the block needed to be ground and clearanced for the bars... DOH!!! Not quite the drop in comp told us. LOL

Didn't want to pull the shortblock down, we put the stock rollers in it. Cam lift with the Jesel 1.7's is in the .640 range, IIRC. Should be interesting to see how things hold together. the rest of the parts are what I believe are top quality, beehives, smith bros, etc. The lifters are the only area that even concerns me.
