Gotta start somewhere.,Ed. Left ,this here,on purpose. Rattle the natives(and myself..).

My first trip was in my brothers 70 Cougar. 14.86@98. 351 4v 3.50's and a no 3rd from the FMX.

Never taken anything down the track, shamefully. I wanna take my truck down it one day. Just for giggles.

First pass would have been in 08. Stock 360 and 727 with a stock converter and 3.55 gear, Z gate shifter back then because race car. Plain street tires. First was a 17.4, by the end of the day it went 14.9 around 85mph I think.... my god things have changed

Also made some passes in a 66 mustang. Blow the tire off n pedal it a lot, still 13.40's

My first pass was in 1993, in my Barracuda with a mild 318...it ran 16.7-16.9 at Bandimere Speedway in Colorado.....MAN that thing was SLOW, but I sure though it was fast at the time. Fast forward 20 years and it is now 6 seconds faster (10.70's). :D

My first pass on a track was in 1977 I believe and George Ray was flagging at the starting line at his 1/8 mile race track, no tree lights just a flag man  I was driving a 70 318 Barracuda and I have no idea how fast I got to the other end, but that little 318 was lite and had a 7 1/4 rear end in it. all stock 2 barrel J class was for 2 barrel automatic cars, wow the memories :eek:ccasion: some I can not share :D

My first pass was in 2000 when I was 16 years old. My first car was a 1989 IROC-Z camaro (I know a cheby but I LOVED that car). Had a 350 TPI injection with all the bolt ons. Was geared 2.77 so I ran the 1/4 mile in 1st and 2nd gear. First trip down the track I ran a 14.10 at 100 mph. That long legged sucker was way too fast on the top end for a 16 year old. Too bad it got stolen my first year of college :banghead:

June of 1991 Thunder Valley Raceway in Marion, South Dakota. I'd been tuning/changing my then 80 Mirada over to a mild 340 street fighter. Believe we ran like 13.8's. Was rather intimidating at the time for sure!!

My first time was around 1987. I staged (72 Chevelle SS, 4 Speed), when the light turned green I still had the car in reverse.

It was embarrassing.

1974 (Age 15). 72' Vega 1bbl 4spd. I bet my buddy, all you can eat at McDonalds, that I could go faster then him. He made the first two time runs...19.60 & 19.59@69. Third pass i went 19.53@70.:D Maybe he just blew the carbon out for me...lol. Although he did weigh about 30lbs less.

First real passes, Spring of 75' in my newly purchased 69' BB Chevelle. All over the 14's spinning the cheap a$$ radial T/A's that were on it when I bought it.

Ahh, the good old days :D.

So far I got'cha all beat for "old."

Carlsbad, N. of San Diego, about 1971? The old 70 sixpack RR. No sixpack, ran an Edelbrock and 800 DP. 3.54, 4 speed. This is my only car, so It got driven every day. Very first run was below 13.5, it would run 13.'0's all night long. 13.08 at 106

My 1st time to actually go down the track was in 1989. I gave a 150 dollars for a '73 Dart swinger that had lots of miles, some rust and had been hit in the drivers fender. It was my work car/winter car. It went 16.71 at 81 mph with the very greasy, complete bone stock 318 2bbl, single exhaust, and snow tires on the back (lol). And I still have that E.T. slip, among the stack of all the cars I've ever run! lol But let me tell ya, that Swinger never left me sitting, the A/C still worked, and I beat my cousins 350 4bbl Camaro, my brothers '86 Laser turbo automatic (both those races were close), and I almost beat my friends '77 Cutlass with a Olds 350 4bbl and mild cam. I was ahead for most the way but he went by me before we cross the line. That Swinger had punch... lol

Was 2003 at Terminal Island San Pedro CA. My car was a 70 SE 383 4spd Charger could not get traction to save my life 14.29 at 98

Only official time- 73 Duster with 76 360, something like the stock 340 cam, stock 904 with spring/ball and drill job, Holley 650 and 3.23 SG on air shocks and 235/15 Kelly street tires did 9.6 in the 1/8 mile.

After working on burnout technique, tire pressure, staging and reaction times, the best run was 9.20.

Prior to that my 70 383/727/3.55 SG Super Bee got manually timed on the back roads at 13 something for the 1/4.

My first spectator trips were to Deer Park, N of Spokane in about 65. One of those trips was memorable. This was very early in the season, probably spring of 66 or 67, and we were parked on the spectator side, warming up in the car. It was a cold, windy day. "Ron's Drive In" and old Chev D/ G was running, and my buddy yelled just as I glanced up from the program. "Ron's blew a clutch," and you could see crap coming out the bottom

Several seconds later we heard a "ka-WHAM" behind us and got out. A piece of pressure plate (which I kept for many hears) about 2" square had hit nearly horizontal into the rear quarter of a57--59 Caddie parked beside us, which means that the piece MISSED by going BETWEEN mine and the other car

When it cooled off, we walked around to the pits where the cast Ansen shield was lying face up on the ground, and a group were squatting around looking at the pieces they had laid into the bottom The clutch had sheared the shield attaching bolts, probably before engine plates, and I doubt that shield would have been legal even back then.

My friend who was with me remembers (I don't) that someone was hit in the kidney? and later died that day

You'll notice there's no collector on the header. I don't believe this was legal. Gassers were supposed to be at least "quasi" street legal in the day, even, LOL if they only had a tiny 4 cyl exhaust, muffler, and tail pipe!!!

Note rear fender, 292-D/GAS. This was a 283 bored to 292

1981, Union Grove WI, 72 Nova, 350 SBC. 1st run, I rolled right up to the tree...Doh!! :help: The track attendant kinda chuckled and waved me back to the beams. Awkwaaard LOL :banghead: Left totally late (like a 2 second reaction time) :eek:ops:

Hammered it and proceeded to blow the tires loose to the tune of a high 17 second run. :burnout: I returned to the pit area to the laughter & ridicule of my friends. Thanks to input and advice from experienced racers we got her into the high 14's by the end of the day...good times...good times.

Pat

1971 Sacramento Raceway Park, driving my 67 GTO 400 with a 4 sp.....ran a best of 15.05....had problems keeping the rear tires from spinning...

For me it was 1973 running my 69 383 Roadrunner at Milan Dragway. Ran a 15.63 if I remember right. Missed 3rd. gear.
No R/T times or 60' times back then.

1988 Gulfport dragway. 66 Charger 440,850 dp,727,4.10 and unstickey Mickey N50. best that day was 13.00 with a 2.2 60 foot.

Although my father was drag racing bikes in the mid 60s and taking my older brother and me to the races from as far back as I can recall (gotta big-*** scar on one knee from falling on a piece of glass at Vargo around 1963 or 64) I never made a pass until around 1980.
1975 Honda XL350 w/Powroll 410cc kit, big cam and porting. I weighed about 210 and that thing would still pull like 8.50 on the 1/8.
Lotsa passes on relatively slow (11.50+) bikes over the years, took until I was 50 to make a pass in a car... My buddy let me make a couple of runs in his '66 Coronet, first run 11.90@108 lifting, second pass 11.80@114...
The part that sucks is now I'm running my 318 at low 14s .
Hopefully I'll be hittin' low 13s next season with RustyRatRod's "Frankenteen" 318 and 4.10s out back.

Mopar world finals in Norwalk in sept. this year--12.74 first pass on the car and first time down the track for me,Don't know why I waited so long,Now I'm addicted and building a drag car for next summer, talk about obsessing !!!!!!

10.40 in My old Vauxhall, 440, 727, 8 3/4, just after I got out of high school in 93. Then last summer in my 71' Satellite,78 motorhome bone stock bottom end, 906 heads with a light clean up, 509 cam,TM-7, 850 Demon, 2" primary Hooker super comps, 3500 stall, 727, with CRT goodies !, 8 3/4 4.56;1 28 x 10.5 ET Drags , all steel body , 4th pass in 14 years, I got it down to a 12.97 with a 1.8 60 foot on stock 318 leafs ! .131 reaction. And a few hints, for the Dart plans !
