Just wondering of history/years/applications of this engine etc

Please chime in

Thanks.

Dodge Red Ram Hemi. From 53-55.

Yes 53-55 . Most applications are in 30's 40's coupes . Considered baby Hemis will generate moderate HP. Best parts supplier Hot Heads.

And they weigh as much as a baby elephant and cost about the same price in food for a full grown elephant.

They are great little engines that can produce a more than respectable amount of power from their relatively small size. Plus, it's a Hemi.

From any experience? I've been weighing parts from early Hemis and they are comparable with LA engines except for the heads. By the time you get to the Dodge heads they are not that heavy.

I think the cool factor outweighs the weight. lol

That. And for hot rodding, at least it's not the same old same old SBC. (I've still yet to have anyone explain to me why the hot rod guys will go out and drop thousands into body and paint, thousands more into interior work, thousands more on top of that in chrome and then go the cheapest route they can with the powertrain.)

They don't know any better. Bought a 341 Desoto Hemi block from a guy who has 3 way cool hot rods. All had SBC power, until he put a blown 341 Desoto Hemi in one. Now all the others have early Hemis also. No interest in SBC any more.

I believe the 241 was only 53 and 54. The baby Dodge hemi became a 270 in 55, here is mine. The cool factor is definitely there, but it is heavy.... 53 and 54 were a red ram 55 was a super red ram.
