273 flex plate bolts

I have a 1965 273 with the original flex plate and small bolts. Do these small bolts have a power limitation? Do they shear off once past xx horsepower or torque? Just curious..

They are the same for all small blocks as I remember. I don't think they got bigger from the factory till you get to a Hemi.

The flex plate should fail before those bolts. Just make sure your parts and threads are clean ( no grease or oil ). A drop of locktite and torque proceedure to spec.

Oh ok, thanks guys. At some point I bought an aftermarket flexplate and bolts where the bolts and holes were much larger than stock. Supposedly for a small block.

Small bolts through larger holes in the flex plate wont work. They wont stay tight.

Yeah I didn't end up using it. The stocker was just fine. Big holes and small bolts don't cut it!
