Guys,

My 67 Dart with 273 has the oil filter on the top of the engine bay yet when I look at other 273s its not there??

Anyone know why they are different??

Cheers
Nick

Post a pic of the filter assembly and we can ID it,its most likely a remote oil filter with adapter. If its a 273,the filter is on the passenger side at the back with a 90 degree adapter or a spin on short filter,Mrmopartech

well this is a picture when I first got the car. As you can see the mounting for the filter seams to be the alternator bracket too??

Looks like someone was planning a RHD conversion. That is an Aussie oil filter mount. Hope this helps.

If you decode your fender tag you might find out its a brazilian built valiant or aussie built unit. These can have a bunch of different built items and locations.I would to see if it has a side mount,on the block like a north american model first. You may have to live with this or install a side mount adapter to relocate the filter.Mrmopartech

It doesnt bother me havning it there. Just would like to know why for sure!! LOL

This is the fender tag:

It had to go somewhere to make room for the steering column and box for a right hand drive chassis. The American oil filter mount was in the way. I kinda like the one you have, it sure makes it easier to get to the filter for changes and definately makes a lot more room for headers.

Yeah it doesnt bother me being there. The filter is easy to get to but messy to change out!! LOL

My cars engine, has the 90 degree adaptor.

Mine was built in California, USA, in Jan 1964 though.

Older trick for upside down filters is to poke a hole in it to let air in to drain the filter. Just go deep enough to pierce the sheetmetal, unless you know yours doesn't have a tube. Do this first before you go under the car that way by the time your done pulling the plug is should for the most part be drained hopefully.
