3.6 Pentastar?

-
It’s sad to admit but I had to look it up to see what it is. Sharp looking rig. My wife likes it. She’s not getting one. I already squashed that idea.

Well, the ONLY reason we're thinkin about anything new is because the Escape is an 04. It's got right at 170K on it. Low mileage for its age, but still 170K. Still ridin on the original GREEN BEARINGS, but the engine had an oil leak at the.......wait for it.......lower block plate that's also the MAIN GIRDLE. So that's gonna be a really in depth repair. If we need to make a long trip for any reason, I would feel much better with something new.

YIKES!
Did you mean 19- 20 mpg or is that "stop-n-go" city mileage Bob?

Average about 23 in the summer, and 21 in the winter ----average .
Best I`ve ever got was 25.9 all hi way coming home from a funeral in southern Okla. , but had a good stiff southern breeze .

From about 2014 to 2018, we rented mini-vans with the 3.6 to go from FL to NC and drive around in Asheville.

They all averaged about 27 MPG combined highway to get there and city driving up and down the mountains.

PLENTY of power to get up the grades with a full (and I mean full) load of people, luggage, craft supplies and even a 66 Coronet fender.

Ahem, aren't those Gladiators about 70K?

Naw, if you build and order your own, instead of settling for one of their "packages" you can get one for a tic north of half that. Still not cheap. But what is?

My parents have a Durango with the 3.6/8 speed, it gets about 15 mpg average. My dad just putts around in it, but on the few occasions I've driven it, it scoots when I put my boot to it.
Also, the mileage goes up when I drive it like a normal person. My only real complaint is the auto shut-off/restart. Luckily there's a button to disable that "feature".

Mine doen`t have that m but my wifes escort does, it drives me nuts , always turn it off.

My brother has one in his 2020 Ram that thing rips for a v6, he gets excellent fuel mileage.

My wife had the Mini van with that engine and I had The Challenger with the 3.6. They are pretty good no complaints and they do get up and Go. I know you didn't ask but, I would get a Ford with the 2.7 ecoboost.

see if you can find someone that you know that works at dealership and get friends and family discount. supposed to be good discount.

We're likely to replace the old Durango (2000 2wd, 5.9, loaded) with a new Durango by the end of the year. Very few out there with the options that I want, though. V6, trailer tow, heated seats and NOT $50k. I looked on Autotrader the other night, 7 in the entire country that were NOT white or that ugly gray and had 18" wheels. Hopefully, we'll be ready to buy by the end of August. Used Durangos are just plain too expensive to even consider it...

Kitty and I are possibly looking to get a new vehicle maybe by the end of this year. Kinda lookin at the Gladiator, since I had an 08 Wrangler Unlimited. We liked it, but the 3.8 converted minivan motor was a total POS. Went out at 18K miles. Dealer covered it with a new engine but it was never the same so I sent it down the road. What about the Gladiator and the 3.6? Are they any good? Any of yall have one? Likes and dislikes?
Honest question for you sir.
You are one of the most prolific experienced automechanics on this forum.
You could build a slant 6 or 318 Mopar A body for less than a new car; why chose a new Mopar with a 3.6? Is it because financing is a faster path toward your goal? I know you could build anything, am not trying to be sarcastic or mean either. thanks

It's because I have a WIFE. She wants something newer, with P/S, A/C and power "stuff". She kinda wants to maybe do a little traveling...maybe see the mountains....beach....that kinda thing. The 04 Escape we have has been a fantastic car, but it's gettin some age and mileage on it now.

All THAT, plus, I'm not gettin any younger. I don't have any "heavy" help. Kitty is all I have and while she's a great helper, there are just some things she doesn't have the strength for. My local friends all have lives and other interests....or just plain aren't interested, so there's "THAT" limitation.

But you're right....and I have mentioned that we could do something older. And I know she would like it.....but I know she wants something new "more".

Yeah, "around" 50K for something nice is a tough row to hoe. I've built a Gladiator several times on the Jeep site that ends up around there. Once I get everything on it I really want, BAM, there it is. Still cheaper than one of their "packages" though.

Plus if it gets stolen, scratched, dented, K-mart rashed, or otherwise molested, who cares, that's what insurance is for.

Everyone needs a "new" car to combat the idiots in the Costco parking lot.

Thanks. That's a pretty good idea.

My wife bought a new 2021 Kia turbo..
5 year bummer to bumper 10 year 100,000 mile drive train...
I don't even want to know how to open the hood..

I get it. Happy wife, happy life. My wife wanted a small suv for carrying groceries, & one that had some creature comforts like heated seats, for instance. She wanted electric seats so she can raise the seat up for better view over the hood, and rear camera for backing up. I steered her to a jeep, which fortunately fit her best, anyway.

Thanks..
My wife likes it and that's what counts...
Of course they have two wheel drive but here in the NW it's a good thing to have awd..

If you have to have a viscous coupling put in it, you might not say that.

I bought a 2018 caravan top of the line with 30k miles for $16k a few months ago. Old design so they are dirt cheap. $36k sticker new. If you can stand having a minivan they are dependable and great to travel in. We only buy cars we can pay cash for, so that limits the selection a lot.

Do they even make a 2WD Gladiator?

That doesn't sound right to me.

We have a 2015 van at work. At 110,000 I had to change out one rocker as the roller wore on it and it was ticking. Other than oil changes that is all I have had to do to it
