Hey all

Been doing a lot of searching on the forums for a mild 318 build to match mine. Looking for a mild mannered street cruiser around 230 to 250 HP. This is what I have a 40 thou over 318, cast pistons, expected 8.5:1 to 9.0:1 ish comp ratio, heads have had a match port and minor bowl work and a small port Weiand Stealth. Expect to be using a 600 vac sec Holley. Will be running std stall 904 auto and 3.23 diff. I have selected a Comp Cams XE262H cam based on the camquest 6 software and the cam description on the Comp website. Am I OK to go with this cam or is there a better choice. Thanks for any advice.

That would be a most excellent cam choice.

Other cams that would work will also have similar duration and lift specs. It would be splitting hairs to which is better and why. IMO, good job, well done.

Awesome. Thanks Rumblefish360. Sounds like job done, just have to get the cam, lifters etc... and I'll be ready to put it together.

It is a nice cam for sure! Very popular among the mopar crowd.

If you need something more budget minded Summit brand cam's are nice too..

Be sure to degree it when you put it in. I think they put the crank dowel on mopar small blocks in a very dark, cramped cave someplace!

I ran a simalar combo yrs ago in a 318-4bbl. After a week I pulled the the timming chain cover off an advanced it 4 deg.s on the adjustable timming gear. Felt much stronger than installed straight up.

...back when I was runnig all those cam choices through camquest, I think I remember the XE 256 only making 5-10 less max HP, but having the touque curve come on much earlier, and stay flat for far longer.

yy1 I'll get back into it and look that one up as I think a cruiser is more about torque than max HP, especially in gear passing etc... Thanks for pointing that out.
