I have a 1982 dodge with a 318 it idles a little rough but relatively fine but as soon as I throw it into Drive, it lets me try for a bit, then sputters out. To start it I have to keep my foot to the floor and hold it in till it revs up to the limiter or else, it will not start. I have change the fuel filter, the fuel pump, spark plugs distributor cap. If you could give me any suggestions on what my problem is and how to fix it I would greatly appreciate it.

Could be flooding.

Causes can be float level too high [ worn needle & seat ], debris under the N & S, float is leaking [ hole in it ], N & S no longer seals due to high mileage.

Check for vacuum leaks around the intake, carb, and any vacuum hoses....

What carburetor? Does it have lean burn still attached? Choke functional?
