Hey Everyone:

Have a 318 that I have been building for a while. (Shop has been slow on getting machine work done) What I have planned for this engine so far is as follows:

Block is a 68 Model-Year 318 Bored .040
Heads are 78 Model-Year 360 68cc
Cam is Lunati's Voodoo 60401 454/474 Lift
Pistons are KB167.040 Flats--w/68cc Heads should produce around 9.1:1 CR
Melling HV Oil Pump

Lunati 3-key Timing Set
Edelbrock RPM Air-Gap Intake

I have only two questions:

1) Anyone see any issues I might run into with what I have chosen??
2) Anyone make a recommendation on carbs for this setup??

Thanks for any suggestions or feedback...

Mike

Guessing the cam duration is somewhere around 220 @.050 ? I would think your combo is good. for a carb something 600-650 cfm should be fine. My .02.

All sounds fine here, i like my 650cfm Edelbrock AVS carb, very street friendly. Not too finiky. Not much experience with holleys though, I've messed around with used stuff before. Never could get it to run right, i'd go new if any

My two original choices were either an Edelbrock 600cfm or a Holley 650 DP, so the responses so far are just confirming what I thought I would like on this engine, but I guess more than anything I was just looking for verification on the direction I am heading. This build has been a long time coming so I'm pretty excited about getting to the point where I can finally put this one together.

If you are considering an Edelbrock, which i do love mine. Really do consider the AVS models over the Performers. Adjustment of the secondaries is no comparison.

Put my little 318 in mid 13s, with it jetted pretty lean (that i found out after the fact on the dyno wideband). Fattened up its ready to roll again, shootin for low 13s!

Whats the rest of the build? Rear gearing & converter?

Rear will remain the 8.25 open for now to get the kinks worked out of the engine. When all is said and done car will get an 8.75 sure-grip with 3.23s. 904 will most likely be the tranny of choice after getting some work done on its internals and a 2500 stall converter. SS springs will round out the back of the car, and the plan is to put 15x7s on all four corners.

Mike, are you sure the heads spec @ 68cc's?

Ethier way, carb cfm wise, you'll be good. The extra or missing 50 cfm isn't to big a deal. (Woul rather have it, but no big deal)
But I would not want to run a double pump with your set up. Don't get me wrong, you could do it, but I myself would rather skip it in favor of a vacuum secondary carb.

Heads are 68cc's

And, I'm sorry I typed part of the post wrong and left out part of what I meant to say.

Those were my two original thoughts but I have chosen to go with the 600cfm Edelbrock. That decision has been made for quite some time, I just wanted to see what others thoughts were on the topic of carb choice and also wanted to make sure that my thoughts were on track. This being the reason that I asked for suggestions on carbs before I mentioned what I originally had in mind.

OOOOoooooo, OOOkay. I think you'll like the build and performance of it all.
