hey i have a 1968 318 out of a plymouth satellite and the timing cover does not have timing marks imprinted onto the actual cover so i was wonder if im missing some sort of mount on bracket or the cover i have had the marks grinded off even though there doesnt look like there was ever anything there. thanks michael

Early engine had a sheet metal timming scale bolted on.

you will need the timing bracket that gets bolted to the bottom two water pump bolts

I got one off of hear for my car. Set me back all of $10 (I think?). Some one probably forgot to put it on when they changed the water pump at some point.
When you get it make sure you check to see that your TDC is right. If they ever changed the balancer chances are it will be for the cover with the pointer on the drivers side. I just went threw all this. Some one correct me if I am wrong, but they had three deferent locations for the pointer.

Like your with the tab threw 68

In 69 they had a cover with the marks cast in, on the passenger side (I found they are not in the same location as the timing tab cover, they are about 1/4in off. So for that year they had a deferent balancer.)

Then from 70 up the marks were cast in the drivers side. This is the one all new balancers are made for.

Not a big deal. If it looks to be off just put a cylinder stop in the NO1 cylinder. Turn the engine over by hand till it stops. Put a pencil mark on the balancer at the TBC mark. Then turn the engine offer the other direction and put another mark. The measure the middle between the two marks and file a little grove there. Fill it with white paint and you are set! I added some timing tape on mine so I could set total timing.

Kinda rambled on there, but it my help you out.

I should have the pointer if you can't find one closer.
Thanks, Mark
