I have a 1968 fastback that has a 318. I am switching to a 360(1974) and noticed that there are more holes in the 318 water pump for the brackets for the p/s and the alt. The alt seem ok but the p/s brackets are completly different. I would like to keep it origional if possible. Thanks for any help

I just dropped a ('79) 360 in my Duster, and the brackets are the same as the 318 in my '73 Scamp...dunno if that helps you or not.

I put a 360 in a '68 Dart that had a (non original) 318 in it. It still had the '68 model 273 water pump and power steering pump. '70-up water pump won't work unless you have a '70-up radiator since the lower hose is on the driver's side on a '68 and passenger side on a '70-newer. I just used the original '68 style water pump and everything worked as usual. The only problem with this is the the '68 water pump lower outlet covers the timing mark on the front cover unless you change that to a '68 model, too. (I didn't).
Here are a couple of pics. Sorry the one you need the most is blurry.

I had a slight problem with the alternator alignment for some reason. It was off a little when I got the car. I had to bend the triangle shaped bracket a bit where the top bolt goes through the water pump and carefully choose my spacers to get it perfect but here is the result. You can see a washer between the bracket and water pump that was necessary even though I bent the end of the bracket a little.

The end result. I also had to modify the motor mount bracket on the driver's side. The 360 didn't have an ear in one spot the 318 did so I had to weld a piece to the original bracket. It came out nice but I didn't think at the time to take a pic of it. :eek:ops:

Thanks Mo I had thoughts of using the 318 water pump. How was timing it

Really wasn't a problem to time. I returned your pm concerning this.
The Dart originally had a 273 but it should have had the same setup as your 318. But the engine had been replaced about 15 years ago with an '80s 318. They used the original (273) water pump but didn't change the timing cover. I had to redo alot of the backyard engineering they did at the time of the swap. If I would have had the original (273) timing cover I would have used it on the 360.
