1970 340 stock cast iron intake, AVS carb.
I got a choke cup from a guy but it's too big to fit into the well in the intake.
I also got a new "repro" choke. It fits nicely into the well by itself. There only seems to be 1 choke cup kit out there and that's the one thats too big so my guess is that this motor did not come with one.
The other thing is that the new choke has 1 bolt hole and a tang deal on the other side that fits into the other choke hole in the intake, however that other hole in the intake is threaded as well. I think I might have seen somewhere that the original choke had 2 bolts, then superseded to one bolt and the tang.
Finally, the well for the choke in the intake is not open in any way so there would be no way any bad stuff would get into the choke. I'm thinking that I'm fine the way everything is but wanted to run it by youze guys.
I did do a good search for an answer but came-up empty. Bottom line is should I stop looking for a choke cup that maybe doesn't exist? Thanks in advance.

The cup is to isolate the coil from the actual exh gas. If the intake has a solid choke well (no direct exposure the gasses) then you don't need it. I'm not sure when the changes were made on the AFB/AVSD intakes, but the Thermoquad does not use the cup and has the one bolt with the tab.
