I just bought my first mopar a couple weeks back. It's a 69 Dart Swinger, Blue with Blue interior originally a NC car until a month ago. It had a 340 4-speed originally but whoever had it at one time junked the engine and trans and dropped a 318 (because it was newer) with auto in it. Pedals are gone, shifters gone, hump has been cut out but that I have. I'm trying to get this car back to what it could be.

If anyone has a 340 engine, a 4-speed trans (A833), pedals, shifter, anything you think I might need please help me out. I'm located in Syracuse, NY so really I can drive anywhere in NY and most of PA. As it is, The car i bought was a 3 hour + drive.

Other items - front bench seat, I think the one in it now is out of a valiant and all torn up. Maybe I just need a new cover material?

I have a steering column with the column shifter now, so i could use one with out and my wheels not a full circle anymore.

Rear End/differential - They replaced it with one out of 68 Charger R/T with posi. So I'm assuming its a good solid rear but I would like to get a good posi that is A-Body Specific if possible. I dont even know what a good one would be, any info here would help

I think that's good for now, this forum looks like a great place for information and help. If anyone out there can help please let me know, I'll be on here often as I'm just getting started and have a long way to go.

You can give me a call at (315) 254-6507. I'm pretty busy so leave a message and I'll call back ASAP.

Thanks!,
Jesse

Welcome to FABO monatoad! If you get a chance you should post pictures of that Dart. I'm not doubting its a 340 4 speed car at all, but it seems like it would be a bit of work installing a bench out of a different car, a column shifter instead of just a floor auto shifter since the hump is already there. Just seems strange to me.

Hi Jesse. I have a 340 engine that will be fresh very soon. The block and heads are still at the machine shop. I also have an A-body 8 3/4 housing and a 489 posi center that I can put whatever gears you want into it. I'm in central NJ, about a 3 1/2 hour ride for you.

If I can help, let me know.

Welcome to FABO Jesse! I am in CA so trying to help with any of the big stuff would be expensive to ship. The parts you are looking for are out there but they are going to be a little pricey. As for the rearend, I would take measurements to verify that it is a b-body version. Even if it were, since the car is no longer #s matchng I wouldn't worry about it. Again, if it is a b-body rearend, I am curious to see if they moved the perches in or not and what backspacing are on the wheels (sometimes used to compensate for the slightly longer b-body rear.

As for the front bench, I would really like to see pics of it and the entire interior. Does it have a blue two tone pattern? Depending on which one you have, there is a possibility that you could reupholster it but pics would help. Also, the car's build date would determine if it came with headrests or not.

Good luck on your project.

It is very strange, the seat only had 2 of the 4 bolts secured to the floor, the other 2 in the back dont line up. I'll be sure to take some pictures and get them posted showing the hump cut out and the hump I found in the trunk along with a little of everything. They switched to the column shift when they put the auto in. I think it was just another part they had laying around.

Thanks for the welcome to the board!

That sounds like something I would be interested in, probably just the engine for now. I dont have a ton of money, but I do have enough to buy what I need How complete is the engine? (carbs.instake.etc.)

Thanks for the info!

The interior is solid blue, minus the front seat which is two tone w/ head rests. I dont know what the build date is. Its a really high number with regards to the vin production sequence however. I'll let you know the VIN as soon as I have access to it and maybe someone could help me out or direct me to how to find the build date.

I'll be sure to check on the rear end situation more, it's just what I was told. I dont care one way or another whats there, I just knew they were a little wider. I'm pretty sure whoever did the work just put the rear end in though with no modifications.

The build date is on the fender tag (if it is still there). Also, take a look around and see if you can locate the broadcast/build sheet. Since the original front seat is missing, check under the backseat, under the carpet, behind the headliner/sail panels, behind the glovebox, etc. If you can locate the build sheet, it will tell you exactly what the car came from the factory with.

Gone and Gone. Not to thrilled I'm missing either, the car was "rescued" from a field so I'm not going to complain too much as everything else is there and in really good shape. Being from central new york where everything has rusted away I'm happy just having a car I can put on a jack without breaking something.

I need pictures too. I haven't taken any, probably because I havent seen the car since the weekend I got it. I just got married and bought a house and we don't have room for it so it's at my parents. I'm trying to get this going so I will have something to do during the winter weekends.

How soon do you need the engine because I still have to get the parts back from the machine shop. And we all know how quickly they work!!

The engine will be a complete long block and have an Edelbrock Torker 340 intake on it, which looks to have been coated by JetHot or something like it. I don't have any carbs or distributors but I do have some no-name chrome valve covers that I can put on. It will also be painted whatever color that you would like. What kind of budget were you looking at for the engine? Just curious.

Shoot me an email and I can show you pics of some other engines that I built so that you can see what it looks like.

Welcome to FABO Jesse. This site has tons of good information and some members that really know what they are talking about. Newark NY is home to ledgendry and they can rebuild seats and recover for you.

I have the 4 speed stuff...

pedals, z bar, linkage, clutch fork, most all the attaching hardware (sans clips/bushings) and maybe a floor hump.

Shoot me a pm if interested.

I forgot to mention that I have a 4-speed hump also. A new Layson's unit if my friend crackedback can't find his.

Ken

I have the floor hump actually, for some reason that was still with the car. I don't know why that got saved.

Jesse, it looks like you may not have that much trouble finding parts for your Dart. Keep the word out there and I am sure you will be able to piecemeal the Dart back together with parts from other members.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I think you're right though. I just get impatient sometimes and want it back together like now. ha.

I was real close to getting a 1970 340 engine for 250 , and it was less than a mile from my house. I was the first one to call on an add in the "Swap sheet" and the seller said it was mine and he would not sell to anyone else. I told him I would be there in an hour and i'd call him when i was on my way, I had some work obligations. about 45 minutes later I got a call and he said he sold it to someone else on accident. Story is another guy saw the ad and didnt bother calling but just googled the phone number to find the address and showed up. Well as the buyer was leaving the seller said "Thanks Jesse", he just assumed it was me since noone else had called. That's when he found out the mistake but it was too late. I was thrilled when i heard this.

Thanks to everyone who helped as I was able to pick up a 340. Not from a user, but the support here was very helpful. I'm going to open a new thread for the rest of what I need. Thanks again. And I still dont have pictures, it has not stopped raining here in CNY
